University of Ibadan Appoints New Registrar

       The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has appointed Mr. Olujimi Iretola Olukoya the Registrar of the University. The appointment is with immediate effect.
Mr. Olujimi Iretola Olukoya hails from Ogun State where he was born on 17 July 1959 into the royal family of Oba Olukoya, the Oremadegun of Odogbolu. He had his primary education at Aladura Mission Primary School, Oke-Bola, Ibadan and his secondary education at Isonyin Grammar School, via Ijebu-Ode, where he finished with a Division One in his West African School Certificate. He attended the University of Ilorin where he bagged his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Educational Planning and Administration. He was a Student Union leader.
Mr. Olukoya started his working career at the University of Ilorin as an Academic Planning Officer. As a Youth Corper, he coordinated the activities of the Academic Planning Unit and kept the Unit running for two months in the absence of a substantive Chief Academic Planning Officer. He had a brief stint as a Classroom Teacher, between 1985 and 1986. He was later absorbed into the services of the Lagos State College of Education, Oto-Ijanikin, Lagos State as an Assistant Registrar. The sterling qualities of an administrator were at this early stage of his career discovered when he was made the Admissions Officer and worked on sensitive committees of Council as Recorder.
He was later appointed as Senior Assistant Registrar, Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, where he selflessly served and contributed to the height the College attained over the last 21 years. His selfless efforts, dedication to duty and administrative prowess were rewarded when he was appointed the second substantive Registrar of the College in November, 2001. As Registrar, he greatly impacted his staff and as a testimony to his passion for capacity building and staff development, two Deputy Registrars who served under him have been appointed Registrars in a Monotechnic in Nigeria and a University in Ghana.
Some of his achievements while in the saddle include the following. As the first Student Affairs Officer, he established the Student Affairs Unit and put in place structures and processes built upon in later years. He also single handedly prepared, collated and supervised the publication of the maiden edition of the Students Handbook for the College. He was involved in giving definition to the Council Affairs Unit of the Registry and doubled as the Establishment Officer of the College. He coordinated the production of the first Conditions of Service Manual for Staff. He was instrumental to the transformation of the Registry from the traditional manual platform to ICT-driven. He undertook a radical incursion into staff development and capacity building. He initiated home-grown, cost-effective and customized staff development programmes. He introduced Annual Public Lecture Series (where renowned administrators and managers both in the public and private sectors had featured). He facilitated Quarterly Seminars which attracted participation from other tertiary institutions including Universities, Polytechnics and College of Education. He encouraged Staff Development Tests which was initially rebuffed but now widely embraced. He organisedWorkshops for all categories of Registry and Academic staff. He ensured publication of the first Registry Journal, ‘The Bureaucrat’ and publication of bi-weekly Bulletin, ‘Registry in Focus’. He ensured repositioning of the Registry to create the right environment and provide needed support services for the accomplishment of the vision and mission of the College. He established bi-weekly Registry Heads of Units Forum which has not only bridged the gap among various Units but has also become an engine room for generating ideas and innovations of immense benefits to the College. He introduced dynamism in the operations of the College Management and provided the platform for the success story of the College.
He has several awards to his credit and has presented papers in seminars and conferences some of which have been published in learned journals. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration and a Chartered Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management. He has been a participant at the ‘Farm House Dialogue’ of the African Leadership Forum, Ota. He has travelled extensively within Nigeria and his professional activities have taken him to Ghana, United Kingdom, Netherlands, France and the United Arab Emirate. He is the immediate past National Financial Secretary of the Conference of Registrars of Colleges of Education (CORECOEN) in Nigeria. He is a member of the Oyo Tennis Club. He is happily married to Kemi and blessed with children.
Mr. ‘Jimi Iretola Olukoya is an administrator per excellence, a humanitarian and philanthropist, a builder of men, a motivational speaker and a complete gentleman.
