As part of an Indian initiative titled ‘INDIAFRICA: A Shared Future initiative’, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) will host the hugely popular Indian rock band Parikrama on the 24th of May, 2012.
Parikrama, officially formed in 1991, is a Rock and Roll band from Delhi, India. They have several live performances to their name.
Other activities that will mark the event include contests on essay writing, photography and poster design, for which the short-listed participants will win a $10,000 financial grant.
The initiative launched in 2011 is designed to boost interaction between the youths of Nigeria and India, encourage a cross fertilization of ideas between them and, ultimately, enhance a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of doing businesses together.
Ambassador Pinak Chakravarty, the Special Secretary of India’s Ministry of External Affairs said:
“We are entering a new phase in our ties with Africa. From a shared history against colonial oppression and economic exploitation to achieve freedom…This new relationship is based on economic partnership in a globalized, deeply interconnected world.”
