BLOODY SATURDAY!!! 20 feared dead, 25 wounded in fresh Fulani attack on Riyom villages

Fulani herdsmen have again attacked six villages in Gashish district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Council of Plateau State, killing at least 20 persons and wounding over 25 others in the early hours of yesterday.

The assailants, who were dressed in military outfits, including bullet proof vests and fully armed, stormed villages, including Kakuruk, Kuzen Ngyo, Kogoduk, Ruk, and Dogoa, and started shooting indiscriminately, leading to the death of the victims. A mobile police officer attached to the Special Task Force (STF) on Jos Crisis, was also killed by the raiders.

A Plateau State House of Assembly member representing Barkin Ladi constituency, Gyang Fulani, confirmed the attack on telephone. He disclosed that the Fulani men stormed the six villages in Gashish district in large number in the early hours of Saturday morning and were shooting sporadically. According to him, many people were killed while others were injured. He said many houses were also burnt by the attackers.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abu Emmanuel, also confirmed to Sunday Sun that there were attacks in some villages, but he could not give exact casualty figure as he was in one of the villages attacked trying to calm down restive youths bent on going for reprisal attack in villages where the Fulanis reside.

He said normalcy has been partially restored in some of the villages. Hundreds of persons have died in the incessant clash between Fulanis and Beroms in Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas in Plateau State.
