Residents of Kano and students of the Bayero University of Kano went scampering for safety late evening as several explosion rocked the university neighborhood.
A police source confirmed that several explosions were coming from the area, he attributed the attacks to Boko Haram militants. However, he stated that the police could not confirm if there were casualties as efforts were underway to stop the explosions.
The Kabuga Red Bricks area behind BUK was primarily affected by the explosions. The Joint Task Force spokesperson did not return calls.
Also Two explosions have struck police stations in Sokoto, Nigeria, they are Anguwar Rogo Police Station and Marina Police Station. At first a suicide bomber driving a bomb rigged car attacked the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in the city at Marina killing a police officer and injuring several others.
Another bomber also bombed Unguwar Rogo Police station in the metropolis. The number of casualties in the second attack is unknown as at the time of publishing this report.
An Associated Press journalist in Sokoto, the major city of Nigeria's northwest, says he saw smoke rising over the stations after the blast Monday morning. Police and security agents have blocked off roads to the sites.
