A source in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, has has confirmed reports of sporadic gun shots being heard this afternoon in some parts of the town as security operatives were suspected to be battling unknown gun men.
As panic spread, many people ran to safe locations in an effort to protect themselves.
A short while ago, a military source confirmed that it was not a gun duel with suspected terrorists but a show of force by security operatives who began firing into the air to demonstrate their power and to prevent any attacks by militants.
"The town is now calm and there is no trouble.
