U.S DECIDES: Obama, Romney in a race ‘too close to call’

9:34 AM

Too close to call was the verdict in the camps of Republican and Democratic Parties yesterday as Americans file out today to choose between incumbent President Barack Hussein Obama and his Republican challenger, Willard Mitt Romney in an election that will decide who becomes the next most powerful man in the world.
After months of intense campaign and negative adverts to catch voters, it is now the duty of Americans to decide the fate of the two leading candidates and five other candidates that are on ballot papers across 35 states.

According Professor Alaba Ogunsawo told Vanguard that from every indications that Americans are in for an election that is too close to call as the two leading contestants are neck-to-neck in most of the battle ground states.
The Leads University based Professor of Political Science said the resurgence of undecided voters in the election day will make the difference even though voting had been on in some of the States. He could not rule out the impact of the super storm which has put states in the dark with serious concerns about electricity, food, gasoline and other life sustainers.
Prof. Akin Oyebode said ''that President Obama has done well given the state of the economy when he came to power in 2008''.
According to him, ''Obama has stabilised the economy, killed Osama Bin Laden, bailed out the auto companies and the Wall Street, all these are solid accomplishments for a president to take to the electorates.'' The Odu of Onitsha Sir Arthur Mbanefo said public office is about performance and the Americans are going to audit the four years of President Obama and the political lesdership know that they are accountable to the citizens, that is democracy.
President Obama himself admitted this much when he said that his fate is now in the hands of Americans. Former Nigeria's ambassador to the US Prof. George Obiozor told Vanguard ''that regardless of who wins the election, America's foreign policy will remain constant.'' According to him ''Nigerians and Africans should keep an open mind about who occupies the White House.''
Vanguard's man Gbenga Oke who is in Texas the strong hold of Republican Party said President Obama and Mitt Romney wrapped up their final campaign for the 2012 Presidential election, various opinion polls further said both candidates are still tied in the national poll. Although both campaigns have been claiming lead in various swing states but election still seems tied with President Obama still having a slight lead in today's election.
For President Obama, one of the greatest advantage to his campaign is the support from former President Bill Clinton who has been campaigning vigorously for him while he has been telling the electorates that Romney is a flip flop who is not trustworthy to be the President of America.
Obama has been telling Americans that he needs more time to fix the economy after inheriting the most exploding economy from President Bush while using a false statement credited to Romney that Jeep is shipping its job to China.
Obama is still leading with 5 to 6 points in Ohio simply because of what many considers a cheap lie by Romney over Jeep shipping jobs to China and the President has maintained that if not for his bailout, GM and other car manufacturing company would have closed down by now.
Irrespective of what they preach, a new poll this morning said 61percent of Americans believe economy is the major reason why they will vote in this election, while 55percent will vote based on deficit and 51percent because of health.
Romney, Obama's Strength
Romney, is generally perceived as a better manager of the economy, and the economy is the sole issue. He campaigned on a platform of energy independence for America by 2020 (meaning he aims to end importation of the crude oil of Nigeria and OPEC countries, take note!) He promises to create 12 million jobs, raise take home pay (real growth, real change) and get the economy growing at 4% annually.
Obama is expected to do well in Washington DC, California, Hawaii, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Marine, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, Nevada, Colorado, Oregon, Iowa.
On the other, Mitt Romney will take Utah, Arizona, Georgia, Nebraska, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Alaska North and South Dakota.
President Obama did his final campaigns in the state of Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa today while Romney visited Florida, Ohio and Virginia. Presently, the result is still a tie in Virginia but the Democratic Senate candidate, Tim Kaine is maintaining a lead in Virginia, this is likely to further boost President Obama's push in Virginia.
In Ohio, Obama is leading with 5 to 6points there while Romney is still lagging a bit behind. this situation has made Romney trying to reach out to undecided voters in places like New Hampshire. With Ohio leaning the way of President Obama, Romney has been reaching out to other states like Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and other places in the effort to get the the 270 electoral votes and he has visited Florida more that 30times.
According to reports, no Republican President has ever won the Presidential election without winning Ohio and in this election, this is an uphill task for Romney. as it stands, President Obama has 237electoral votes on ground and if he wins Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa today, he reaches 270 mandatory electoral votes.
For Romney, he has 206electoral votes already and he needs to win Virginia, Florida, Colorado and probably New Hampshire in today's election to carry the day.
