Mr. Sebastine a Chemistry teacher at Iponri Estate Senior High School, Surulere in Lagos is reported to have beaten unconscious one of his female students last Tuesday.
Abigail Chidinma Enyenwa is alleged to have behaved rudely and rebelled against the Chemistry teacher’s instructions during his class session.
The teacher had apparently asked all students whose parents were absent during the school’s open day to rise on their feet. Abigail, an SS1 student whose parents were not present is said to have ignored the teacher’s instructions.
The teacher was exasperated. He called her out and caned her and in the process, the student passed out. The student regained consciousness minutes later after her colleagues and Mr. Sebastine poured some water on her.
The girl’s parents reported the incident to Iponri Police Station leading to Mr. Sebastine’s arrest the day after. The principal of the school Mrs. Anyah is said to have tried to block the police from arresting the teacher saying the teachers in the school do not beat students to stupor.
