Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital is on the verge of becoming an oil-producing state after crude oil was discovered in commercial quantities in the coastal state.
Lekoil Limited and its partner Afren Plc announced the significant oil discovery Thursday. Afren expressed optimism that the discovery would be significantly higher than the 78 million barrels of oil they had previously anticipated.
The discovery now awaits authentication by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR). If certified, Lagos will join 10 other states that produce oil in Nigeria.
