#CampusNews:: Nasarawa poly suspends 12 over cultism

7:43 AM

Barely a week after students suspected to be members of a cult at the Nasarawa State Polytechnic in Lafia, shot and killed a student, the school management has announced the suspension of 12 students over cultism.

A statement by the acting rector of the polytechnic, Engr. Emmanuel Jatau, said at the weekend that the affected students were suspended indefinitely, after an investigation proved that they defied the rules and regulations of the school.
The statement said the affected students have been warned to steer clear of the institution, pending police investigation on the matter.
The rector, who lamented the rate of cult activities and other ant-social vices by students of the institution, said the decision was taken as part of measures aimed at ensuring sanity in the school.

He attributed cult activities in the institution to lack of hostel facilities, a situation which according to him exposes the students.

He added that the management of the polytechnic was liaising with the police and other relevant security agencies to rid the area of criminals.
