A student of the Federal University of Technology in Akure, has been killed extra-judicially by a policeman in Ikorodu, Lagos State, in western Nigeria.
The killing provoked a riot in the town, with people running helter skelter as sympathisers made bonfires and attacked some motorists.
The 21 year-old victim identified as Kunle, by his friends, was killed while riding a commercial motor-cycle in the town.
His attacker claimed he violated the Lagos traffic law.
Kunle, said to be on forced holiday because of the university lecturers strike, was said to be using the bike to make money, pending the students recall to school.
Nigerian university lecturers have been on strike since July and negotiations with the Federal Government has deadlocked.
