football team Super Eagles at the ongoing CHAN tournament in South Africa was yesterday praised by the Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi.
The Minister said that every Nigerian, starting from President Goodluck Jonathan and ending with ordinary citizens, appreciate their efforts and resilience.
Minister Abdullahi addressed the team at the President Hotel and Conference Centre in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He said he was absolutely satisfied with the players' performance despite their losing to Ghana and will continue to support the team to ensure further achievement.
The Minister was accompanied by the President Alhaji Aminu Maigari, Technical Committee Chairman, Barr Chris Green, and the Senate Committee Chairman on Sports, Adamu Gumba. He also hailed their performance.
Minister Abdullahi then presented the team with $100,000 for defeating Morocco in the quarter-final match, and another $100,000 for the team's performance against Ghana.
The Minister also urged the Super Eagles to defeat the Zimbabwe team in the clash for the third place on Saturday, adding that the Government would reward their efforts.
The NFF President Aminu Maigari, who himself personally doled out $10,000 to the team before the Ghana game on Wednesday, assured the Minister that the team will get better as it prepares for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
Team Coach Stephen Keshi and Captain Chigozie Agbim assured that the team would not disappoint in the upcoming game.
