Don Jazzy’s younger brother tells ThisDay Style he has no regrets on the former label breakup…

Was your desire for music influenced by your older brother’s footsteps?
My big brother has always been an influence for sure. But in a way, in our house, you have no choice than to enjoy music growing up. Someone was always singing or dancing or something. Don Jazzy set the way when he took the bold step to set his label. That only helped to make my mind up.

Having released four hit singles, are you likely to release an album soon?
The new album is coming up and I promise it’s going to be hot! We are working in the studio constantly because I really want the first one to be a classic. We have been waiting for MAVIN to take off before releasing but you can expect the album really soon.

When the Mo’Hits records was dissolved, were you torn between the decision to take sides with your brother or D’banj?
(Laughs) Don Jazzy is my big bro so decision was not hard to take.

Do you have any regrets on the break-up?
I miss him but we wish each other all the best and I’m sure God will take us to greater things.

Do you have any regret on the breakup?
No regrets at all because I still see it as business as usual. In terms of MAVIN, there are some new faces here and there but our operations are more or less the same. What we didn’t achieve at Mo’Hits, God will allow us to do at MAVIN.

What advice would you give to anyone who is trying to break into the Nigerian entertainment industry?
Be persistent, be original. I would also advice anyone to be strong and dedicated because the entertainment industry is a tough one.

Which famous musician do you draw inspiration from?
So many of them but musically I like Fela, Jay-Z and Michael Jackson.

Both Kim Kardashian and Kanye West happen to have quietly put their homes on the market—a coincidence that surely only serves to up their adorable quotient.

While the timing of West's decision to list his Los Angeles bachelor pad is certainly, er, interesting, a source told E! News that Kardashian is trading up from her place in Beverly Hills because, despite all the amenities, what she really needs is more security.

What we can tell you with the utmost certainly, at least, is that

neither is moving because their previous residences were eyesores.

Two years after buying the Tuscan-style mansion for $3.4 million, per Realtor.com, Kardashian has pocket-listed her five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home for close to $5 million.

The 4,000-square-foot abode features a media room, a pool, an outdoor living and dining room, dark hardwood floors and a two-story entry. It sits on a quiet-for-most-people cul de sac and has its own gate, more privacy appears to be the No. 1 amenity Kardashian is looking for these days.

We hear she wants her next place to be in a gated community, like Hidden Hills, where Kris and Bruce Jenner live.

As for West, he bought his similarly sized home (4,214 square feet) in 2003 for a reported $1.75 million. The jet-setting rapper put it on the market for almost $4 million two years ago, but the property never sold.

In addition to a ceiling mural in the dining room and French walnut floors throughout, the modern house boasts sweeping city views and a built-in aquarium in the master bathroom.

FRESH!!: Facebook's Website Goes Down Temporarily

Facebook's website suffered sporadic outages on Thursday, anywhere from half an hour to two hours according to various blogs, tweets and affected users, but the company said the problem has been fixed.
"Earlier today, some users briefly experienced issues loading the site. The issues have since been resolved and everyone should now have access to Facebook," company spokesman Michael Kirkland told Reuters.

The outages came as Facebook continued to grapple with the fallout of its botched May 18 IPO. The stock has plummeted nearly 23 percent from its IPO price, and numerous lawsuits have been filed in the wake of first-day trading glitches.

A 21-year-old electrical engineering student has been charged with first-degree murder after parts of a man’s dismembered body were found in his home a week after the man first went missing.
Alexander Kinyua confessed to police that he also ate his roommate’s heart and portions of the brain after killing him in their Joppa, Maryland town home.
This is the second deeply disturbing report of cannibalism to sweep the nation within a week. In the first, ‘Miami Cannibal’ Rudy Eugene tore off and ate most of the face of down-and-out homeless man Ronald Poppo.

UNILAG students suspend protest to bury late VC

Students of the University of Lagos on Thursday suspended the protest they embarked upon to protest the renaming of their university by President Goodluck Jonathan. President, on Tuesday, had renamed the institution after the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Chief Moshood Abiola.

The students took the decision after deliberations on Thursday morning at a congress held in front of Jaja Hall of the institution.

Though they made it clear that the protest was suspended in honour of the late Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Tokunbo Sofoluwe, they vowed to continue the protest on Friday (today).

Buhari: There’s Too Much Corruption In Nigeria

Former Head of State Gen. Muhammadu Buhari yesterday condemned the prevalence of corruption in the country.

Buhari, Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 elections, spoke in Abuja at the CPC National Secretariat. He condemned President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration which he described as ‘reversing’

He declared that he might contest the 2015 presidential election.

He said: “Old soliders never die. I do not believe in anarchy whether political or whatever.

“Where is the money we are making in this country going? People are embezzling the country’s fund. The country is full of corruption. This is why I wept on completion of my campaign for the 2011 election. I said I would never join partisan politics in 2015. I said I would not contest in 2015 but since then, hell was let loose, members of my party, associates and other concerned citizens started intervening. I told them that it is up to my party to decide if I would contest in 2015. And now I may withdraw my decision.

“God will punish our corrupt leaders even if Nigerians do not punish them. I think the present government is reversing. From what is going on at the National Assembly and other government agencies, things are going bad. Some people have formed a syndicate and stealing billions of money in Nigeria .

Responding to a question, Buhari said: “Yes, you are right, I broke down. I could only recall that it was the only time I ever broke down. I wept because I saw how rich this country is materially and otherwise. The whole world is envious of Nigeria . Now, most Nigerians cannot educate their children, most Nigerians cannot have proper medical care, most Nigerian cannot afford clean water.”

Drug Dealer Mistakenly Sends Officer Text Messages

Police say a drug dealer mistakenly sent messages to a California central coast police officer in an attempt to sell methamphetamines.

The Santa Maria officer notified Santa Barbara County sheriff's detectives about the errant text messages early Tuesday. The officer and detectives then set up a meeting with the alleged drug dealer.

Sheriff's spokesman Drew Sugars says they arrested 39-year-old Reymundo Carlos Escobedo and seized about 2 grams of methamphetamine.

A news release says 37-year-old John Martin Silvera, who is Escobedo's suspected methamphetamine supplier, also arrived and was arrested with about 7 grams of methamphetamine. Escobedo and Silvera remain held on drug charges, including criminal conspiracy. Bail is set at $30,000 each.

Staff, Students, Family Members Bid UNILAG VC Farewell

The remains of Prof. Adetokunbo Babatunde Sofoluwe, vice chancellor, University of Lagos (UNILAG) were yesterday committed to mother earth at Ikoyi Vaults and Garden, Lagos amidst wailing, eulogies and tributes from family members, staff, students and politicians.

The earthly journey of former vice chancellor ended on a grand note as the corpse was taken to the graveyard by the undertaker, M.I.C in a black Mercedes Benz car with customized number plate bearing Sofoluwe. After the funeral service at about 12.15pm family members and selected dignitaries were allowed inside the Ikoyi Vaults and Garden. #

Before the funeral service, the body was taken to the university sports centre for the lying-in-state and it was an opportunity for staff and students to bid their vice chancellor farewell. Many of them could not hold back tears as they beheld the casket amidst wailing. As the pallbearer carried the casket to the funeral service, staffers and students who had paid their last respects stood up and bade the late vice chancellor farewell with songs as the corpse departed the university sports centre.

.... 5 killed in multiple tanker accident on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway

At least five persons were burnt to death in a multiple accident near Mowe in the Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of Ogun state in the wee hour of yesterday. The auto mishap that occurred few metres to Redeemed Camp involved a trailer loaded with petroleum product which rammed into some trucks parked along the sideways of the popular dual carriage way.

According to an eyewitness account, the accident occurred when a Lagos bound trailer with number plate, Kebbi, XB370ZUR rammed into some of the petrol tankers haphazardly parked on the two sides of the expressway.

The witness further stated that immediately after the collision, the tankers went up in flames, burning both the heavy trucks parked along the road and some motor boys caught unaware. The accident caused heavy traffic jam along the every busy road, forcing many motorists and passengers to divert their routes. It was a hectic day for officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, (TRACE) as well as the Police controlling traffic. An official of the FRSC who spoke with Daily Sun on condition of anonymity, lamented the accident, recalling that there had been frantic efforts by the Commission to dissuade truck drivers from parking haphazardly on the expressway.

Jonathan’s UNILAG Name Change a Gift Horse' - Prof Wole Soyinka

This is one gift horse which, contrary to traditional saying, must be inspected thoroughly in the mouth.

Primary from all of us must be a plea to the MKO Abiola family not to misconstrue the protests against the naming of the University of Lagos after their heroic patriarch.

Issues must be separated and understood in their appropriate contexts. The family will acknowledge that, among the loudest opposing voices to Jonathan’s gift horse, are those who have clamoured tirelessly that MKO Abiola, the Nigerian nation’s president-elect, be honoured nationally, and in a befitting manner.

Next is my confession to considerable shock that President Goodluck Jonathan did not even think it fit to consult or inform the administrators of the university, including Council and Senate, of his intention to re-name their university for any reason, however laudable. This arbitrariness, this act of disrespect, was a barely tolerated aberration of military governance. It is totally deplorable in what is supposed to be a civilian order.
After that comes the bad-mouthing of MKO Abiola and the Nigerian electorate by President Jonathan who referred to MKO as the “presumed winner” of a historic election. While applauding the president for finally taking the bull by the horn and rendering honour unto whom honour is due, the particularities of this gesture have made it dubious, suspect, and tainted.

P-Square signed a distribution deal with Universal Music, South Africa. The deal was signed and sealed this afternoon at a press conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. Peter Okoye also announced it via Twitter.

UMG will be releasing past and future projects with them; and handle all their digital and CD sales all over the world.

Universal Music Group (UMG) is a multinational music company. It is the largest of the "big four" record companies by its leading market share and its multitude of global operations. Universal Music Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of French media conglomerate Vivendi.

Lagos State Gov't Recalls Sacked Medical Doctors

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it has recalled all the 788 doctors sacked earlier this month for allegedly participating on what it termed illegal strike action.
Lagos-based television, ChannelsTv reported that a spokesperson to the Lagos state governor, Hakeem Bello, released a statement claiming "the government’s decision to recall the sacked doctors followed several pleas from the national and state leaders of the Action Congress Party (ACN), traditional leaders in the state and other concerned leaders in the country."
Several leaders of the striking doctors contacted by Sahara Reporters said they are yet to receive official notice from the Lagos state government recalling the sacked doctors.

R.I.P: Nnsuka Student Commits Sucide (PHOTO)

The students of University of Nigeria, Nsuka, woke up to find one of their own hanging from a rope in an unfinished Franco building beside the hockey pitch in their school.
Roommates of the dead student said he left the room around 2am this morning and they thought he had gone to study, only for his corpse to be found dangling from a rope this morning.

He's a 3rd year Physics and Astronomy student in his early 20's. So so sad

Foluke Daramola Ejected From Marwa Gardens Abode

Surely, sultry actress Foluke Daramola has not been finding life easy since her marriage collapsed some years back. The setback that the breakup caused her affected her career and her life to the extent that she is alleged not to have an apartment of her own.

We gathered that a Good Samaritan offered her his house somewhere in Marwa Gardens in the heart of Alausa area of Lagos for N250,000 for a room. The house is very close to one of her sisters’ place where she was staying before she was asked to move for reasons best known to both of them.

Though she paid an initial N100,000, she could not raise the balance of N150,000 for the room and instead of going about her business in a quiet manner, we learnt she started telling all who cared to listen that she was the owner of the place without the consent of the person that allowed her to squat there. She would bring her friends and use the place as movie location, which didn’t go down well with her benefactor though he did not say anything all the while.

Aside this, she was alleged to be in the habit of disturbing the peace of other neighbours of the apartment which is located on Avocado Street in the dead of the night with loud prayers. She would be dressed in her Celestial Church uniform popularly called sutana, spreading salt and other prayer materials common with the spiritual church members.

Mashood Girls Go Nakéd In Protest For Name Change

The chain reaction of the hullabaloo caused by the announcement of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 29th of May, 2012 which happens to be the Democracy day for Nigeria, has taken another toll on the students of the now Moshood Abiola University as the ladies now take off their clothes in protest. As at yesterday the 3rd Mainland bridge was blocked by this students hampering movements of workers to their respective work places, and making the whole of Lagos feel at a stand-still. Information came through that it is most likely going to resort into the closing down of the school for a while to mitigate the effect of the protest on the people.
