#CODED-ish News::Two weeks to exam: UNILAG students moan their fate

It is said that when two elephant fights the ground suffers. It is only two weeks left for the students University of Lagos (UNILAG) students to prepare for their second semester examination after six months of ASUU strike. SYLVESTER OKORUWA was on campus to get the comments of the students on their experiences during the strike period and future plans.

Mike Okoh, post -graduate MSC Economic: During the strike, I got myself busy with my family members doing profitable business. I was positively engaged, but the six month period was a waste for me academically. I could not go on with the progamme, I was doing at that time due to the prolonged ASUU strike. To me, the strike only helped extend my programme, which I did not find funny because before the strike, I had only two months to the end of my post graduate course, but now, I have to do extra brain work to be able to meet up with the present crash programme the system now offers us. The strike left us with no choice because ASUU was fighting for the improvement of university education in Nigeria.

Deola Jayesimi, 200 Level, Faculty of Law: The six months ASUU strike only helped to extend my five years Law programme to six years. The strike was very inconveniencing for me as it only distorted the school's calendar and delayed the students from moving to the next class. Before the strike, we were unable to write our 200 level second semester examination because by now, I should have been in 300 level. As for me, I only used the ASUU strike to play football and briefly worked in my father's company.

Bukola Toki, 200 Level, Department of Petro Chemical Engineering: The strike affected every student in different ways, while some of the female students got pregnant, others were engaged in positive entrepreneurship activities. I believe that the government was very insensitive to the plight of Nigerian students, that was why the strike was prolonged. As for me, I tried to engaged myself in some positive activities.

Victor Dare, 400 Level, Department of Philosophy: The strike was worth it if ASUU got everything they fought for. As a student, I cannot compare myself with fellow students in South Africa in terms infrastructure. If ASUU gets the money and puts in place the necessary facilities in our universities, studying will be made easy. To me, the crash programme presently put in place for the final year students is not going to be funny because in two weeks time, I will be writing the final examination and defending my project, all after six months of idleness, how do we cope?

Evelyn Chinasa Ike, 400 Level, Department of Philosophy: Initially, when the ASUU strike started, the final year students were happy because it gave us time to do more research work on our projects, but when it went on from one month to five months, we were affected psychologically. Now that we have resumed, everybody is busy reading to be able to cover lost grounds as the examinations start in two weeks time. How do we cope? Only God will help us because many students did not study during the strike. This may result in massive failure.

Patrick, Department of Creative Arts: The strike was challenging as the strike affected more students psychologically. Six months of idleness and two weeks to prepare for a second semester examination. This may not be easy. ASUU and the Federal Government should also take the students into consideration in the course of their dispute because if two elephants fights, it is the grass that suffers most. Now that the strike is over, the students will have to bear the pains.

According to family sources, Ijeoma left home around 9.30 that Saturday morning to her aunt's shop at the Tradefair complex to help with cleaning. By the time she was done by 4 that evening, she told the other lady she worked with that she was going to meet up with her boyfriend, who had come to the store earlier in the day to give her some kind of chemical to keep for him. The boyfriend then called Ijeoma and asked her to meet him at a hotel called Cossy Hotel at Abuleosun near Tradefair.
That was the last anyone heard from Ijeoma (pictured above) until the police alerted her family on Monday January 13th and told them that her body had been found in a bush near the hotel.

According to her family, after killing his girlfriend, Ifeanyi fled the hotel in a bike. It was the hotel staff that found her body and got someone to alert the police. But in the meantime they removed her corpse from their hotel and kept it in a nearby bush.

#CODED-ish News::Obasanjo, Babangida soon to join APC

Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, yesterday gave indications that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida would soon join the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Okorocha dropped the hint when he inaugurated the interim executive committee of APC in the South East states. He noted that Obasanjo and Babangida are strongly behind the APC.
Speaking during the event held at Ahijoku Convention Centre, Owerri, the governor said that the leaders who are impressed with the performance of the APC are waiting by the side to formerly join the party.
The governor said with the backing of notable leaders in the country the party would take leadership of the House of Representatives next week when the House reconvenes from its Christmas and New Year recess.
According to him, there is no way the presidential or vice presidential slot of the party will not be zoned to South East.
He said, "I have advised my brother, the deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha to move and join the APC to retain his position for Ndigbo.
I have said and will continue to say that APC is the best option for Ndigbo and we must embrace it". Okorocha also slammed political leaders from Anambra state, accusing them of sabotaging the efforts of Ndigbo in achieving the age long ambition of producing the President of the nation. "Anambra is the major problem of Ndigbo.
In every election, the leaders from the state will go behind the zone and collect money and contracts from the Federal Government to sell out their brothers for their selfish purpose. But, this time we must resist them', he said.
The governor also disclosed that state, local government and ward registration would begin in every state of the federation on January 28, 2013, and urged the women and youths to form vanguards for the battle ahead in 2015.

#CODED-ish News: Meet the man who hasn't had a bath in over 60 years...

This Iranian man you see above hasn't allegedly had a bath for 60 years. Daily Mail reports that 80 year old Iranian Amou Haji hasn't washed for 60 years because he believes being clean will make him sick, and his favourite food is rotten porcupine.

To relax he likes to sit down and have a smoke, from a pipe packed with animal faeces. Mr Haji says he chose this way of life after going through some emotional setbacks in his youth and since then - perhaps unsurprisingly - he has become a bit isolated.

His home is in Dejgah village in the southern province of Fars in Iran where, once, a group of young men offered to give him a shower - but luckily he managed to escape.

At night he either sleeps in a hole in the ground, which is quite like a grave, or in an open brick shack which concerned locals built for him. Continue...

Handsome Nollywood actor, Uti Nwachukwu once talked about betrayal by someone close to him which sparked the break-up rumour with BFF, Alex Ekubo.

Also, in this interview with Encomium Magazine, the BBA winner talked about his bitter experience in the hands of people he trusted.

"I learnt a lot about loyalty and genuineness. I was really hurt last year and a lot of true colours were revealed. I battled insolence, pride, treason, ingratitude, leaching, sabotage and wickedness from the people I least expected it from. I guess you have to be careful with what you pray for, because prayed to God to open up the hearths of people I care about. Let's just say if I wasn't spiritually strong with divine premonition, I would have gone into critical depression. But I guess I saw signs before but ignored these dreams. The hardest part was that I was and had been used by the most unassuming people and after confronting the issues, the parties act like they don't need you anymore but gain continually from your platform" he said
