GIST: IDENTICAL TWINS GET SAME MARK IN EXAM – In Same Course At Same University

Identical twins Anuja and Shailja Chalishazar wowed their family by getting exactly the same A-level grades in exactly the same subjects. And now 12 months later they have achieved exactly the same mark in their end of year exams.

“We still can’t get over it,” said Shailja. “Even our parents couldn’t believe it.”

The 19-year-olds are studying medicine at Cardiff University after achieving A*s in biology and maths and As in chemistry.

They each applied to five universities and said it was “a huge coincidence” that they were both accepted to CardiffThey were called for interview on the same day and received their offers at the same time, after helping each other prepare for interviews.

There are 300 people in their year group at university, but they have ended up in the same seminar group of 10 students.

“It’s nice being together,” Shailja tells UK Mirror “We walk to lectures together and we revise together – that might be why we get the same marks.”People do get us mixed up. I think half of the university has realised we’re twins and the other half hasn’t.”

“Sometimes people come up to me thinking I’m Anuja and vice versa. Sometimes we play along.
“I’ve had someone say to me: ‘You’re twins? I didn’t realise!’ Even our friends get us mixed up.”

APOLLOS MUSIC CHALLENGE: The Search begins!!! + Audition Photos

The Apollos music challenge is a unique music competition that pits musically inclined talented students in an attempt to harness the special musical gifts inherent in them. The contest is originated from Greek folklore, where Apollo serves as the Greek god of music; hence, we aim to discover who takes over the reign of supremacy in the 21^st century music world. 

The Apollos music challenge is an initiative of Pro World Concept, in conjunction with some other promising firms and organizations to make its first edition a huge success. The contest,which has kickstarted in earnest, is set to last 6 weeks, where there would be rounds of auditions, preliminary stages, selection of final contestants, quarter final stage and the Grand Finale.

The University of Ibadan is the host of this contest, and it will feature contestants from tertiary institutions within the south western region of the country.

The Apollos music challenge is geared at not only entertaining youths, but empowering them to reach heights they normally wouldn’t be able to on their own. The prizes for the contest spread across the top 4 contestants of the competition.

Dear Mr. President
I write to Nigeria and our President today, not as somebody who is proud of his choice of topic, but, as a
frustrated Nigerian graduate who by ways of hopelessness provoked by the inadequacies of our government, is beginning to consider the prospects of identifying with one of the groups against the State.

I am a Nigerian and I love my country Nigeria. I had my Primary and Secondary School Certificates in the North.
After the qualifications, I approached South-Western Nigeria for my Degree where I joined and graduated from Nigeria’s acclaimed best University years ago. I remain a student of Logic and strategy. My first encounter with frustration directed at the State surfaced during my Secondary School days. At that level, I nearly missed my Secondary education because my mum who remains a teacher hardly earned her worth- the State Government would pay her once in eight months. I now had to outsource. I began to serve until I completed my secondary education. My frustration was that the State was unfair to her despite the fact that she took her time to serve it.

As a student of the University of Ibadan, I won several awards. Academically, I was a leader. I was among the three top graduates our Department produced that year. I paid attention to academic details. I paid that serious attention with the hope that when I graduate, I would have the concrete, realistic opportunity to contest for a job. This impression was to be jettisoned few months after.

My first job interview was a scam. I attended the second interview and met over Five Thousand Applicants for a job that required just two slots. I later realized that, that job advert was just ceremonial. They had already employed their candidates but only wanted to deify illegality. The seventh job I applied revealed something to me. When we left for the interview, then I was a corps member with one of Nigeria’s security outfit, I realized that securing a job in Nigeria doesn’t work under the principle of what you know. It rests on who you know first. In fact, many job platforms would require at the prima facie that you fill in your source. Should you indicate your source of information about the job to be a search engine, you will never be considered in the first place until you indicate that you know of the job from ‘a thief that matters’.

While I was busy doing my applications up and down, one of my friends who could not appropriately write his name was on his way to becoming a leader in one of Nigeria’s first-class banks. He didn’t read accounting, he didn’t read economics, he read anthropology. His choice of course was/is not the issue. The issue remains that
this friend never applied for a job for once but got it three months to the time he was to finish his NYSC.

Do you know his secret? He was dating a top politician’s daughter. As I speak, this friend of mine works with the ‘lender of last resort’ as a senior staff. The case of my friend perfectly captures the reason why things would never work in Nigeria, why no innovation, productive steps would be registered, after all, at the end of it all, if you like, know from Maiduguri to Badagry, no one will consider you if you don’t know anybody.

That is why it pisses me off when some hogs sit there and say Nigerian graduates are not employable. Why would they be employable when eighty percent of the ones you induct are ground zero, brought up only because they know you or the other that matters? Why will they do what the job requires when the only knowledge they have is that they know somebody who can press for them, or you want them in for sexual gratification or runz? My roll of applications continued until my 20th application. This time, I reasoned that since I cannot secure a job elsewhere and doesn’t know anybody, I should create a job for myself. I think I made a mistake here.

Instead of trying to set up a legitimate job at that stage, I should have hustled criminally never to get caught for me to survive first before setting up my legitimate business. I didn’t reason that way at first because I felt the government, people in the society who would go to a public arena and tell youths to create a job for them would buy into my idea and support me. Sincerely nobody, no individual despite working with professionals to erect my proposals with demonstration of concrete gain answered me. 

In fact, even those who I managed to text that I am so, so person doing so, so something and that they should allow me to come and present my idea to them never picked my calls thereafter. 

My Vice Chancellor, Senate Minority Leader and my State Governor are victims of this and others I approached. They never allowed me to present my idea to them and never picked my call after the first introduction. Why, because I did not come from somebody that matters- because my father doesn’t hold circles with them.

The job I created which has the potential of employing at least One Hundred and Fifty Nigerians in two years time, at the moment with Eight Corps members working for it began to run its course. The money I needed was Three Hundred Thousand to assure my future and the future of close to Two Hundred Nigerians including the Corps members who shared the dream and joined the movement. Nobody came to my rescue, no individual. Now, the future of that job platform is fuzzy.

Now that it seems I am in losing in everything recommended by the State for me to survive because of lack of support, it seems I have some options. I feel as a student of Logic/Reasoning and Intelligence, since I am of no use to the State, and the State cannot guarantee my future all rounds, I should go against the State by identifying with some of the groups against it. 

The State doesn't know how I survive; that I exist is not known to it. But that group may know. 

Now, 

I know that Government creates jobs only on paper and at worst, for the children and other relatives of those that steer it. I am not among the categories. Mine is the category of abandoned graduates who, in fact, the government call at random, force them to pay One Thousand Naira for their deaths, gather them in a stadium and kill them in the name of giving them a job.

Now I know also that the people who preach that youth should create jobs instead of depending on Government should not be taken seriously. How can a youth who can barely eat, who although has graduated, is been frustrated and kept out of job by these Chairmen, create a job when you cannot support him/her when he comes to you? In fact, it pays to know that you talk of other ways of psyching one than embarrassing your tongue.

Your Excellency, to stay and die hungry pays less than to die with food in the belly. If you were in my shoe and you had the option of joining Boko Haram, Yahoo Yahoo to feed once and be killed, with killing under probability, and, may be, remain something for your family on the one hand, and to starve and die of hunger because the society has refused to help you in all ways you have tried to be useful within the law, nothing for your family whatsoever, under the circumstances discussed above, which one will you choose? 

I hope I will get this answer before the job I have created will crumble, before the graduates working with me finally give up to consider what no one would welcome but could happily be done by a hungry and frustrated graduate!

The management of Bowen University closed the school indefinitely following students' protest the previous night. Students of the private uni. say they are protesting scarcity of electricity, water and plans by the university to increase school fees. The students say they are not being treated right

"They take the light by 8am, and bring it back by 8pm and it goes off by 11pm again. We don't have water, no socket light, while our lecturers are in AC offices and cars. We have time table for eating. 7-9am for breakfast, 12-3 for lunch and 6-8 for dinner. Most times we have classes during these periods" one student told me.

All students have been asked to leave the university...while some students who were detained last night after the riot are yet to be released. Continue...

"The name Xtreme Media came up at a time when we as a body were looking for a name that would let our clients know how we operate and how we feel about media, we wanted our clients to have an idea of the extent to which we were ready to go just to render quality services to them, so we went for the name Xtreme".

Q. Why U.I?

A. "First of all i would like to clarify the fact that Xtreme Media is not strictly Ibadan based or just within the  walls of U.I. With time we hope to go beyond Ibadan but since U.I is our home, we just felt our surrounding pals should be the first to enjoy the services.Also the passion and zeal to give UItes the best and re-orientate them on media as a whole. #CODED-ish Special:: [A MUST READ] University Graduates VS Graduate Artisans (non-graduates)

It really makes no sense to go to the university considering the fact that those that didn't go to university get more job opportunities than the graduates.

There is virtually no work in the society today that can't be done by "Graduate Artisans" who just acquired their skills outside the 4 walls of the university, so whats the point?

Take for instance, opposite my house here, someone just completed a 2 storey building. and i didn't find any single graduate among the workers. The guy just went to Lagos and brought some builders who came and built his house from foundation to roofing.

All were "Graduate Artisans" who learnt how to build houses outside the university. The question is; why should someone spend 5yrs studying civil engineering in Nigeria and not get the opportunity to express himself in the exact field he was trained?

Go to the mechanic village; all the auto mechanics there are illiterates. and someone will spend more than =N=500,000. studying mechanical engineering for 5yrs.

#CODED-ish News:: Students Insist On Planned Protest Despite Police Presence

Despite the heavy presence of security men at the premises of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) following the students' plan to protest the lingering industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Tuesday, the students have insisted that they will proceed with their demonstration regardless of the development.

ASUU has been on strike since June 1, 2013 following the inability of the Nigerian Government to honor the agreement it signed with the union in 2009.
The UNILAG students are also agitating for the reinstatement of their Student Union Government (SUG) as well as the reversal on the hike in tuition at the Lagos State University (LASU).

Coordinator of the Lagos State chapter, Joint Campus Committee of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Yaqub Eleto, said the body has a responsibility to ensure welfare of all students.

"For many years now, UNILAG has been without a Students Union and LASU school fees is too high. This is a developing country and we should be encouraging students to go to school rather than hike their fees," Eleto said, insisting that students would not give in for any kind of threat.

#CODED-ish News: VP Sambo Takes Over Government’s Negotiation With ASUU

ASUU has been on strike since June 30.
The Vice President Namadi Sambo has, in a bid to end the continuous gridlock in the dialogue between the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and federal government, taken over the negotiation process.

The government's negotiation team was formerly headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim.

For the first time since the commencement of the over 10-week-old strike action by the union, the Vice President met with the leadership of the union at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.
The meeting was held behind closed doors.
Nigerian Universities have been shut down since June 30 as a result of federal government's failure to honour an agreement signed between it and ASUU in 2009 bothering on issues of university funding and improvement of infrastructure in the sector.

Speaking to journalists at the Presidential Villa after the closed door meeting, the ASUU President, Nasir Fagge, said that he was taking back a "message given to him at the meeting for his members" and that Nigerians would have to wait for the response of his members on the way forward.

#CODED-ish News: University Graduate drags NYSC to court for not mobilizing him for service

A university graduate, Terna Tarka, on Tuesday filed a suit at a Federal High Court, Lagos, challenging alleged denial of mobilization for national service by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Tarka, through his counsel, Mr Adekunle Oyesanya (SAN), is praying the court for a declaration that the act of the defendant (NYSC) is unlawful, ultra vires and a violation of the NYSC Act, Cap. 84, Laws of the Federation. The plaintiff is also claiming N5 million as exemplary damages for alleged “oppressive and unwarranted act’’.

Joined as second and third defendants in the suit are the Chairman, NYSC Board and the Minister of Education. At the hearing of the case on Tuesday, counsel to the defendants, Mr Peter Owuru, informed the court that he had “front loaded’’ his written addresses to ensure speedy hearing of the suit.

In his response, Oyesanya, challenged the submission of defence counsel, saying written addresses are unnecessary. In a short ruling, Justice Mohammed Idris, adjourned the case to Oct. 22 for hearing.

The plaintiff, in his originating summons, had prayed the court to determine whether the denial on account of his inability to obtain five credits in his WASCE result including Mathematics, was lawful.
In a 25-paragraph affidavit, the plaintiff averred that he obtained two credits and four passes in a WAEC-conducted examination he wrote in Nigeria in 1999 before he proceeded to the United Kingdom.
