Sony Unveils Waterproof Xperia Z Phone

Sony has announced a new smartphone that can be used in the shower or bath without the risk of damage, reports BBC News. The Xperia Z can also record HDR (high dynamic range) video, a facility borrowed from its camera division. The Android-powered device was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The handset has a 5in (12.7cm) screen and is said to be capable of being submerged in water of up to one metre (3.3 ft) in depth for 30 minutes. It features a 13 megapixel camera and 4G LTE data connectivity, a Micro SD slot, and a 1080p x 1920p high-definition screen that borrows technology from Sony’s Bravia TV division to enhance video playback.

Late Dele Giwa's mum dies at 87

Madam Elekiya Ayisat Giwa died in the early hours of this morning Tuesday January 8th at Aruna Ogun Hospital, Ikorodu, Lagos after a brief illness. She was 87.

Dele Giwa was the late Editor in Chief of Newswatch magazine who was assassinated with a parcel bomb on October 19, 1986.

Lagos socialite Princewill Ojukwu claims Don Jazzy told thugs to brutalize him

Popular Lagos socialite and former manager of Auto Lounge Nite Club, Princewill Ojukwu, is accusing ace music producer Don Jazzy of sending thugs to beat him up, this is according to an exclusive report by Stella Dimoko Korkus.

Princewill is alleging in a petition to the IG of Police, that on Friday December 21st, Don Jazzy asked his thugs to 'take his life' after he and the music producer exchanged words at Jazzy's night club, Pop, situated in Victoria Island.

Princewill claimed he was brutally beaten and stripped naked under the supervision of Don Jazzy and he suffered blunt force trauma to the eye, face and body. Sounds insane!

Princewill is also claiming that Don Jazzy sent a text to him some days back apologizing for the beating and asking for an account to send money for hospital bill but he says he's not interested.
'Its not about the money' Ojukwu told Dimoko 'this could happen to anyone, it is abuse of power and needs to be checked before someone is killed all in the name of the other being a celebrity. Don Jazzy stood there pinging on his blackberry as his thugs beat me up, that is the last thing I remember before I fainted....''
Weeks after the beating, Princewill says he cannot wear shoes, still walks around in pain and has constant migraine. He said he reported the case at the Bar Beach police station but no arrest was ever made.

Lionel Messi wins record-breaking fourth consecutive Fifa Ballon d'Or in Zurich.

Lionel Messi won a record-breaking fourth consecutive Fifa Ballon d'Or at the awards ceremony in Zurich tonight.

The 25-year-old Argentinian took the honour ahead of Barcelona team-mate Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi enjoyed a remarkable 2012 even by his own high standards, most notably surpassing Gerd Muller's 40-year-old record of 85 goals in a calendar year, finishing with an incredible 91.

Ghana’s Mahama sworn in as president

ACCRA – Ghana’s John Dramani Mahama was sworn in as president on Monday at a ceremony attended by thousands in the capital but boycotted by the opposition, which has challenged the election results.

Mahama, who initially became head of state following the death of his predecessor John Atta Mills in July, pledged to build on the west African nation’s economic success in a speech after taking the oath.

Man sets six co-workers on fire in Lagos

A Nigerian factory worker at Amuwo Odofin, Moses Ayogu, has been arrested by the police in Lagos State, for allegedly setting six of his colleagues on fire, leading to the death of two of them and seriously injuring four others, now on admission in the hospital.

According to the police prosecutor, the two victims who died in the fire attack are Lawrence Onyejekwe and John Omeren while four others, Chijioke Anayo, Titus Terkuve, Hope Effiong and Emmanuel Philip were badly burnt.

Stray bullet hits UNIMAID student as JTF, Boko Haram clash

A student of the University of Maiduguri has been hurt in an exchange of fire in the metropolis between the Joint Task Force, JTF, Operation Restore Order and Boko Haram militants.

A statement by Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, JTF spokesman, said the incident occurred at 5:50am on January 4 at Gwange, when terrorists attacked a JTF location.

The statement said: “During an exchange of fire, a taxi was caught in the cross fire. Unfortunately, a stray bullet hit one of the passengers who is alleged to be a student of University of Maiduguri.

“The injured student in the taxi was escorted to the University of Maidu-guri Teaching Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention and responding to treatment.”

A 500 level student of the Federal University of Technology Minna, named Godwin Edeko has been arrested for allegedly cutting off his girlfriend’s head after having carnal knowledge of her for three days.The neighbors became suspicious when they heard the dead girl, simply identified as Hanatu, screaming and the suspect dashing out of his room.

After some time without hearing any sound from the girl who had been with the suspect for three days without coming out, they forcefully opened the door of the room only to find the headless body of Hanatu with blood stains all over the room.

The suspect has confessed to the crime, but the Police are yet to establish the motive of the crime. The photo when you continue.

Babcock University set to conduct drug test on all students as they resume second semester 2012/13

Babcock University will conduct drug test on all students as they resume the second semester of the 2012/13 academic year. The test will part of the registration for the semester and it will be conducted on all students (male & female).

It was reported that lots of students tested positive to drugs such as marijuana & codiene last semester. Such students faced a 1 year suspension from the school. Drug test is now part of the school registration. It is not clear what the punishment for testing positive will be this time.

Rumors on the internet suggest virginity & pregnancy test will be conducted but sources said it is false.

I still wonder why our parents still rush students to Covenant University, yes they got good infrastructures, state of the art Library, Holy Spirit filled Chancellor, but it really isn’t about that. Why would an Higher Institution in the 21st century deny her students of the free use of mobile phones, why would they derive pleasure in suspending and expelling students at the least offence, there is also the gist of Virginity test and HIV/AIDS test. Female students are not even allowed to hold hands with the opposite sex in the evening time, no wonder most of their students try to have the best of fun they can have at any slight opportunity. Is this not another glorified Christian secondary school, but still parents and students alike rush into this institution and get rushed out by their awkward rules and regulations.

Wow. Have you ever looked at an old picture and been instantly transported back in time — to the point where you can feel the fabric of the shirt you were wearing, and smell the room you were standing in?
That’s what this photo [above] does for me. I was 21 years old. I had bought the entire outfit off a mannequin at Cain-Sloan in Nashville. (Never was a bargain shopper. To this day, going through racks of clothes looking for a find makes me anxious.) The skirt cost $40. I’d never spent that much on a single item of clothing.

Man Cuts Sister's Fingers Over Argument

A man simply identified as ORANU, has chopped off two fingers of his sisters following disagreement over domestic chores. The incident happened in Eziehulu Village, Awuda, Nnobi in Idemili South Local Govt. Area of Anambra state. Oranu also Allegedly attacked another Sister's of his over the same incident.

Trouble started when he was asked by his sister to fetch water into the tank in preparation for the impending wedding of one of their sisters named Rose. Apart from refusing to carry out the function, the man picked a quarrel with his sister and went for a machete to her.

The victims fingers were chopped off as she tried to defend herself from being hit on the head. The other sister, who came to rescue her was also attacked but for the intervention of neighbors who have suffered the same fate."When Oranu brought a cutlass, I raise the alarm and went to defend my sister. He threatened to kill her. I went in between them. but he hit me with the blade of the cutlass, and as i refused to allow him to perform the evil act, He cut my fingers instead," Rose said amidst tears.
Meanwhile, Oranu had said to be arrested by the Police.

Landlord Attempt To Eject Tenant With Snake

A Landlord, Patrick Emeka Onukafor, 50, Has been arrested by the police at Ago Palace, Okota, Lagos, and charged before the Cele Magistrate's Court for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

He was accused by his tenant, Edith Ndu of an attempt to eject her from the 3 bedroom flat she occupied at 1, havana street, Ago-Okota, by dropping a live snake in her flat.

Apart from dropping the snake, she also accused him of recruiting thugs and fake policemen to intimidate her, even though she didn't owe him.

She reported the matter to the police and the landlord was arrested. In his statement to the police, the Landlord said that the tenant owe him one (1) year rent and she refuse to park out of the house.
He admitted dropping a live snake in her apartment to force her out, but Denied hiring thugs and fake Policemen to kill the women, as she claim.
