#CODED-ish News:: Chris Brown Finally Touches Down in D.C After Days in Con Air
Chris Brown was loaded onto a con-air flight to D.C. last Thursday to face misdemeanor assault charges for attacking a fan back in October but didn’t get there until late yesterday, (the plane stops in different cities to pick other prisoners) making him miss his first hearing.
In his absence, a judge rejected his request to dismiss his case on the grounds that the prosecution unlawfully took the case before a grand jury, meaning his case is moving forward.

Oscar Pistorius broke down in court today as he described the moment he shot & killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a toilet door at his Pretoria home. Oscar claimed he was paralyzed with fear thinking an intruder had entered the house before he opened fire through a locked toilet door.

At that point I just wanted to put myself between the person who had gained access to my house and Reeva. I slowed down and had my firearm extended in front of me. I whispered to Reeva to get down and phone the police.
As I entered where the bathroom passage is, I was overcome with fear. I screamed at the person to get out. I screamed at Reeva. I was constantly aware this person could come at me at any time. I did not have my legs on. Just before I got to the bathroom, I heard a door slam. It could have only been the toilet door. It confirmed that there was a person or people inside the bathroom.'
'I got to the entrance of the bathroom at the end of the passage where I stopped screaming. At this point I was certain that the intruders were in the bathroom.
I had my pistol in my right hand and peered into the bathroom.I didn't have much mobility on the tiles. I had my pistol raised to the corner of the entrance of the bathroom. I noticed that thebathroom window was open. I was with my back against the wall. I wasn't sure if the intruders were in the toilet or around the corner at that point. When I didn't hear anything from Reeva, I panicked. I didn't want to believe it could be Reeva inside the toilet. I didn't know what to do. I kicked the door. I was crying out, I was screaming. I used my cricket bat to smash down the toilet door and found Reeva. I have never screamed like that. 'I said "Oh, Reeva". I sat over her and cried."Who believes him?

Students of Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa, on Thursday paralysed the activities at the institution following a protest against alleged increase in school fees.
The students, who barricaded roads leading to the Otuoke Community and the institution, described the increase in the school fees from N55, 000 to N85, 000 as unacceptable.
The protest also led to the closure of some business outlets in the town which is the home town of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The students complained that the fees they are being asked to pay does not commensurate with the available facilities. The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, however, denied the increase.
"The truth is that we have not increased the school fees of the university,'' he said, explaining that the fees advertised by the university during its admission were still the ones being paid.
He said the fees were charged according to the three sets of students that had so far gained admissions into the school.

#CODED-ish News::LUTH: Doctors Embark On Warning Strike Over Poor Management
A circular signed by the President of the LUTH Association of Resident Doctors (LUTHARD), Dr. Omojowolo Olubunmi, directed all doctors in the hospital to abandon their duty posts for three days to send a message on their seriousness to the institution's management.
The circular warned that if the doctors' demands were not addressed during the period of the warning strike, they would embark on an indefinite strike to force the management to listen and attend to the queries of the LUTHARD members which border mostly on the rapidly declining quality of medical services rendered in the hospital.
At the end of the emergency general meeting of the association held on March 27, they resolved that: "Management is hereby given a seven-day ultimatum to address varied issues, failure of which a three-day warning strike shall be embarked upon. This will be followed by an indefinite strike within 21 days."
A source in LUTH confirmed that the warning strike was currently ongoing and would definitely be followed by the indefinite strike unless the management took steps to address pertinent issues.
According to the circular, the issues in contention include the doctors' deep concern "about the recent hike in hospital fees and the new policy stating that patient must pay before surgery even in emergency situation.
"We deem this insensitive to the plight of Nigerians, and management should therefore revisit the decision given its attendant negative effect on the image of the hospital, residency training and above all, the security implication."
The doctors also called on the management of the hospital to withdraw what they described as the contentious letter of employment given to new residents, which the circular said was full of strange and provocative clauses.
"The most alarming is the issue of the new employment letter orchestrated by LUTH management in total defiance of the directive of the Minister of Health and contrary to all known labour laws. This is coming as a rude shock to us while we are still battling the crippling effect of the refusal of the Chief Medical Director to deduct House Officers capitations for us since last year July," the circular stated.
The doctors also raised the issue of six months post fellowship, stating that it should be automatic and non-negotiable as practiced in other centres.
They added that the implementation of the rectified Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) should begin immediately.
LUTHARD demanded that "letters of skipping be issued to all residents immediately as directed by the circular from the Federal Ministry of Health," and frowned at the gross shortage of staff especially the house officers, stressing that the employment list be released without further delay.
The doctors also stated that the way the resident employment list was released was not acceptable.

#CODED-ish News::Why Death Sentence For Financial Crimes Has To Be Adopted – National Assembly Members
The voices of those who support capital punishment for financial crimes sound louder in Nigeria. Last week some delegates of the ongoing National Confab have advocated death penalty for the public officials found guilty of corruption. And now, some members of the Senate and the House of Reps have supported the death sentence or, at least, stiffer punishment for financial crimes.
The supporters base their position on two points: 1) countries like China and Singapore, which adopted the law, have corruption rate reduced to the lowest level; 2) the existing law encourages corruption by sentencing corrupt public officials to, for example, six months imprisonment only, after they would have stolen billions of naira.
They said this should be stopped with stiffer penalties against acts of malfeasance.
The lawmakers announced their position at a two-day retreat of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes with the theme "Tackling Corruption Through Credible Legislation". The event is held in Abuja, April 7-8, 2014.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes, Victor Lar, said the lawmakers planned to review the principles and merits of the bills by examining international best practices as obtained in other countries and would look at the international experience:

"Somebody who steals a goat gets three to six years jail term, but someone who steals billions gets six months' jail term and he uses his money to bring people to dance for him at his exit from prison. It is wrong".

My husband's death was like a coup. It was sudden and shrouded in confusion. General Abdulasalami [Abubakar] just called me, telling me to come and collect the dead body. I'm yet to fully recover from the shock of his death.

As you read this, a big truck assistant has been arrested by Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lagos for stealing a truck and two containers belonging to his employers, Samcham Holdings Limited.
But why should any company pay a man N5,000 as monthly salary for 31 days? Is that not wickedness?
In his confession, the man, Udeme Udoton, said: “I was a farmer in Akwa Ibom, but recently relocated to Lagos and got a job with a transport company in Mile 2 area of the state. A few weeks after I started working with the company, my friends from Akwa Ibom started putting all sorts of ideas into my head.
“I earn N5,000 a month and I wanted my children to attend a good school.”
But why should any company pay a man N5,000 as monthly salary for 31 days? Is that not wickedness?
Udeme said, “They [his friends] told me to get them empty cargo containers whenever I had the chance to. I rebuffed them, but on February 8, 2014, I don’t know what came over me. I think my friends hypnotised me over the telephone.
“On that day, we had gone to convey some containers from Sango Ota in Ogun State down to Mile 2 and when I got the opportunity, I fled with the truck and the two containers. I drove down to Akwa Ibom and sold the containers for N100,000 each.
“After selling the containers, my eyes were opened. When I realised what I had done, I decided to return the truck to my employers, but I was scared. So I decided to continue using the truck for my personal business.”
The suspect said he used the money in paying his three children’s school fees. “I used part of the money to pay school fees which was a total of N30, 000,” he told Punch.
The 28-year-old Udeme was arrested by SARS operatives in his home town where he was using the truck for transport business to feed his family.
Police say he would be charged to court and probably sentenced to prison. His family will be the worst for it.

Ten men stormed the church while service was going on around 11am, approached the 70 year old man and shot him point blank in the head several times. They left in two vehicles.
The incident which threw the church into a state of pandemonium, happened in less than 5 minutes. The man is said to be in court with some former business associates.
Meanwhile Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has vowed to make sure those behind Otunba Okuneye's murder are brought to book, while the Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, while confirming the tragic incident, said investigation had commenced to unravel the reason behind the murder.
Otunba Okuneye is survived by six wives and 20 children.
