#CODED-ish News: Obasanjo Withdraws From PDP

Olusegun-Obasanjo
President Olusegun Obasanjo has fired another letter, this time, to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, in which he gave a notice of his withdrawal from the activities of the party.

Obasanjo also sent a copy of the letter to President Goodluck Jonathan as National Leader of the party. A copy of the letter was obtained by the Saturday Tribune.

The former president, in the letter, said he was withdrawing from all activities of the party because the PDP had been negating the principles of morality, decency and discipline in its decisions, especially as they affect the South West where he comes from.
The letter, dated January 7, 2014, according to a source at the national secretariat of the party, was received in the office of Tukur on Wednesday, 8 January, 2014. It is believed that President Jonathan also got his own copy on Thursday.

Obasanjo accused the party leadership of imposing someone (names witheld), who he described as a criminal wanted abroad, on the party as its South West zonal leader and proceeded to add that he was forwarding with the letter, “recent documents” on the alleged activities of the person.

Efforts to get copies of the “recent documents” by Saturday Tribune from both the PDP national secretariat as well as from Obasanjo’s side were, however, not successful but a source at PDP’s national secretariat confirmed that the letter came with attachments. He did not give further details.

The three paragraph letter reads:
“While I believe that a good and truly national political party must be a microcosm of the nation in its membership, made up of all sorts of characters from near-saints to near-satan, I also believe that on no account should a known habitual criminal that is wanted abroad to face criminal charges levelled against him be extolled as a political leader in a respectable and wholesome nation-building political party.

“(…Names witheld) has been so extolled in PDP in South-West geo-political zone which I personally find unsavoury. Politics played by any national political party must have morality, decency, discipline, principles and leadership examples as cardinal practices of the party. I have attached here recent documents that clearly indicate that your extolled PDP Zonal Leader in the South-West zone of Nigeria and an indigene of Ogun State is, to say the least, not a credit to the party as a member, let alone being a zonal leader.
“Since I stick in my practice of party politics to the hallowed and cherished principles enunciated above, I take this opportunity to let you know that while I continue to remain a card-carrying member of PDP, I cannot and I will not subscribe to a wanted habitual criminal being installed as my zonal leader in the party; a criminal for whom extradition has been requested by the US government. In the meantime, I will consider withdrawing my activity with PDP at local, state, zonal and national levels until the anomalous and shameful situation is corrected.”

A meeting of South West leaders of the party, it was gathered, will hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, today and may also come up with far-reaching decisions on the future of the party in the zone.

PDP governors give fresh conditions for peace
PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) governors have given fresh conditions for peace to return to the party and for the chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, to remain in office.

Part of the conditions, according to information gathered by the Saturday Tribune, is for President Goodluck Jonathan to prevail on Tukur to return the structures of the party to them in their respective states as well as make them the leaders. Only after this would they agree to resume adequate funding of the party at all levels as well as its national secretariat.

Part of Tukur’s ‘sins’ is his alleged incessant interference in the affairs of the state chapters, which is said to have led to the setting up of caretaker committees for some of the chapters. The situation did not go down well with the governors, who saw the action as erosion of their powers as leaders in their respective states.
The new development, sources close to the governors said, followed the intervention of some respected leaders of the party who reportedly counseled them on the implications of removing Tukur now that the 2015 general elections are around the corner.
Saturday Tribune, however, learnt that the development had created a sharp division among the governors, as some of them are still insisting that the embattled chairman must go as earlier demanded, for them continue to be relevant in the scheme of things in the party ahead of the 2015 elections.

The likes of the governors of Jigawa and Niger states, who were members of the aggrieved G7 Governors before five of them defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and some others are said to have insisted that for genuine peace to return to the PDP and for the party to maintain its supremacy come 2015 elections, there must be a complete change of leadership.
However, one of the aides to Alhaji Tukur revealed that the cause of friction between Tukur and the governors was his insistence that the party must be returned to the grassroots, and that the constitution of the party must be followed to the letter to allow for due process in election of candidates for party or elective offices, rather than the old order of imposition of candidates by state governors without due process.

#CODED-ish News: Pastor Chris Okotie joins 2015 presidential race

Despite losing the bid to become Nigeria’s president on two occasions, Pastor Chris Okotie of the Household of God Church International Ministries has announced his intention to run for the nation’s number one position in 2015.

He disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH in Lagos on Thursday. Okotie said he would contest for Presidency under the platform of the FRESH Democratic Party. He however refused to disclose the strategy being put in place to ensure his victory in next year’s presidential election.

He said, “I don’t want to talk about our strategy for now, we have learnt from our past experience, we don’t want to talk about it for now.’’

FRESH party was recently proscribed by the Independent National Electoral Commission but the party won a court victory against its de-registration in June last year.

FRESH, stands for Faith, Responsibility, Equality, Security and Hope. According to Okotie, only a fresh Nigerian can salvage the nation. He said all the cosmetic and superficial activities that were going on in the ruling party were a journey in futility.

Okotie first ran for President under the banner of the Justice Party and lost to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in May 2003 elections. He ran again in May 2007 as a member of the Fresh Democratic Party and lost to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua.

Asked if he would contest in 2015, Okotie said, “I will run in 2015, God willing.

“God spoke to me about my participation in the political process, which was why I took the step in the first place. He has not said anything contrary.’’

Reminded that he had always lost in past elections and that people might actually doubt if he was instructed by God to contest in election, he said as a servant of God his duty was to obey God’s instructions. He explained that he lost in past elections because of the prevalence of election malpractices especially by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party. He said, “I can sum it up in one word-rigging by the PDP. Even one of the party’s stalwarts, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, told The PUNCH recently that all elections have always been rigged. So that answers the question.

“These election questions are inter-related. If they didn’t rig, then I could have won. Apart from election malpractices, the duty of a servant of God is to obey his master when he gives him instructions, irrespective of whether he fails or succeeds. Like Moses in the Bible, who kept fighting until Pharaoh released the Israelites.’

#CODED-ish News: Paul Put explains why Mikel Obi did not win African Player of the Year

Head coach of Burkina Faso, Paul Put, has given reasons why John Mikel Obi, was beaten to the African Player of the Year prize at the Glo/CAF Awards held on Thursday, by Yaya Toure.

Put, whose team was beaten by the Super Eagles in the 2013 African Cup of Nations finals, said the Nigerian midfielder was not consistent enough for his club, Chelsea.

“The three nominees [Mikel, Yaya & Drogba] were superb in 2013 but to be honest with you, Yaya was the best because he was outstanding for both club and country,” Put told Goal.

“I could have rooted for Mikel to win but not at the expense of Yaya who added goal scoring responsibilities to his dominance in the midfield of his country and club and put up man of the match performances too.

“Mikel does not get to play regularly for his club and I think that was a big minus for him. He has to work hard if he is to be crowned the next African Footballer of the Year.”

The Belgian tactician, also expressed his disappointment, at not being named the best coach in Africa, ahead of Stephen Keshi.

“I’m very disappointed because when you are nominated on two fronts – with the team and as coach one would have expected to win one prize.

“I had expected the Burkina Faso team to win the team of the year because we took the continent by surprise. I am strong in victory.

“We have to take a cue from Nigeria because they are on top right now so we are doing everything possible to ensure we follow their footsteps. That is how we can move forward,” Put said.

#CODED-ish Gist: Redeemer University Student To Spend Extra Year For Missing Church on Sunday

Redeemers-University
A female student amongst other is to be punished by being sent to rehab because she missed going to Church on Sunday. Rehab at Redeemers University is a place where the offender will go for six months without attending classes and the full school fees will still be paid after the offender is done, he/she will repeat the class and pay another fees.

Personally I feel this is a RIP OFF. butI asked a question ” why did these student not attend church”? The answer I got was simple!

“they all have very genuine reasons, the girl came up with menstrual pain that morning and couldn’t make it. Now Stella the girl in question is a final year student who her parents are very glad that the struggle of half a million per term is over. Only for them to be told they will have extra year at the university. Which means extra 500k which is separate from all the pocket money and other fees which when calculated in totality come up to  N1m- N1.5m”

i feel this is very unfair for a school that preaches CHRISTIANITY. these students where not caught with drugs, bad, or having sex etc, their only crime was that they did not attend church. now the question is, does the punishment fit the crime?

Is Pastor Adeboye aware of all these sanctions being carried out in his premises and is he party to it? Because it is alleged that the lecturers and the CSO of the school ‘CLAIM” these instructions come from him.  This is just a few amongst many other stories that happen in that premises that need to be brought to the forefront.

According to info reaching me, the idea to send these students to Rehab allegedly came up today and the affected students were informed today to wait till next week Monday to get the final verdict on their cases.

Please somebody should get this to the attention of Pastor Adeboye, I am sure he has no idea of what is going on at RUN….This is so unfair!

#CODED-ish News: Is 38 years in prison appropriate for a teacher who slept with her 12yr old student?

Former teacher Ethel Anderson, 31, (pictured above) was found guilty and sentenced to 38 years in prison in December 2013 for having sex with her 12 year old student.

The married mother of one had sex with one of her students, whose identity is being kept secret because of his age (he was 12 at the time). The alleged abuse started in 2011 just one month after the teacher and the minor started a tutoring session in her home. During her trial last year, the boy, now 14, told the court that she started by kissing him and progressed to giving him oral sex.
"I felt like she was a girlfriend, I loved her and she said that I was her boyfriend and she loved me. She would rub on my legs, kiss on my ears, neck and stuff like that. We would tongue kiss. I lost my virginity to her. I told her to stop but she said she wanted me bad"
The boy's angry mother told the former 'teacher of the year', who worked as a language arts teacher at Mango Elementary School, in Florida, that she took her boy's innocence.
'Anger and hatred don't even begin to explain how I feel about what you took from my son. His innocence is lost forever.' She said in a statement read at the sentencing
Now there are people, especially blacks in America, who feel 38 years is too much to spend in prison for having sex with a minor...especially after a teacher, Laura Whitehurst (who is white) was sentenced to prison for 1 year and released after only 6 months for sleeping with three of her students and giving birth to a child fathered by one of them. Watch the people you leave you children with.
