BREAKING NEWS!!!: 4 Crushed To Death In Ibadan

THE entire workers of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State were left mourning, on Friday, after a tipper truck crushed their colleague a few metres away from the office headquarters, located off Moshood Abiola Way, Ibadan.

The victim, identified simply as Banji, was said to have met his fate around 12.00 p.m. about two minutes after leaving the premises on his motorcycle, marked: OF 355 AAB, to attend to an unspecified business at Dugbe.

Witnesses said the victim had attempted to avoid two commercial motorcycles, which occupants were just getting up from the ground by the side of the road after an accident, only to be caught in front of the speeding lorry, with registration number: XB 495 AKN, which immediately ran him over.

By the time Saturday Tribune got to the scene, the body, which was said to have been mangled, had been evacuated to the General Hospital, Adeoyo mortuary.

Asked for details about the status of the victim in the local council, all one of his colleagues could volunteer was: “He was in “Property.”

At the scene of the accident, a crowd comprising Banji’s colleagues and other sympathisers fumed over the alleged escape of the driver of the lorry and confronted policemen who attempted to evacuate the vehicle to Iyaganku Police Station.

However, some people among the crowd claimed that the driver of the lorry decided to escape from the scene to avoid lynching and report himself to the police, but the information could not be substantiated as of the time of filing this report.

There was traffic jam while the confrontation between the council workers and the policemen lasted, with the lorry occupying a considerable space on the road.

A vehicle belonging to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) carrying some officials was seen for a brief moment at the scene.

The local council staffers, who claimed they had misgivings about the plan of the policemen to take custody of the lorry, later took it to the council’s premises and “impounded” it.

At the council’s premises, some workers, especially the women, wailed, while others discussed the next line of action after they learned that the authorities of Adeoyo hospital refused to admit Banji’s body, demanding for police report.

People also gathered round trying frantically to pacify some relatives of Banji, who had rushed to the council to confirm the news of their kin’s death.

“We just cracked jokes together before he told me he was going to Dugbe. I can’t believe Banji is dead. This is too cruel,” one of the victim’s colleagues lamented.

Another said: “I was not comfortable with the hurried manner in which he tried to leave the premises. It was like I could feel an omen. I even tried to get him to calm down by taking the keys he was holding from him, but he took them back from me and left.”

Meanwhile, No fewer than four persons lost their lives in auto crashes in Ibadan, Oyo State on Friday.

Saturday Tribune learnt that two people while on motorcycle ran into a moving trailer and they were crushed to death in Musfala area, Muslim, in Oluyole Local government Area of the state.

Also, a motorcyclist was crushed to death along Ring Road, Ibadan by a moving truck.

The Federal Road Safety Corps Oluyole Unit Commander, Sanya Adeoye who confirmed the two incidents said though he could not confirm the number of those killed at Musfala, he said that motorcyclist was killed at Ring Road.

He said that the wreckages had been removed at the time officials of the FRSC got to the scene of the incidents.

Also, tragedy struck at Owode Estate area of Apata-Ganga, in Ido Local Government Area of the state when a 35-year-old man, identified as Fatai (a.k.a Happy Day), was crushed to death by a truck while rushing to meet his boss.

A businessman, Alhaji Olusegun Adesina, 60, was yesterday arraigned at an Abeokuta Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo for allegedly raping a 20-year-old secondary school leaver (name withheld).
The accused was arraigned before Magistrate O.A. Ayobolu on a count of having unlawful sexual intercourse with the 20 year old on Tuesday at his private residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Police Prosecutor, Paul Etusi, stated that Adesina allegedly lured the victim by promising to help him secure a job pending his admission into a tertiary institution.
Etusi, an assistant superintendent of police, argued that the Adesina inflicted physical injury on the 20 year old when he forcefully had sexual intercourse with him through the anus.
He stated that Adesina’s offence was punishable under Section 214 of Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria 2006.

In her ruling, the magistrate granted Adesina bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties. The sureties, she added, must own landed property within the jurisdiction of the court and must have paid tax in the last three years.

ITS OFFICIAL!!!: D’BANJ SIGNS DAVIDO

Dapo ‘D’banj‘ Oyebanjo has signed to his new (yet unnamed) record label the fast rising pop star David ‘Davido‘ Adeleke

NET investigations confirmed the signing took place on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the 19-year-old’s house in Lekki after a five-man meeting involving D’banj, his manager Abisagboola ‘Bankulli’ Oluseun, Davido, his manager Asa Asika and father Deji Adeleke.

After the signing, both acts and their crew members then headed out to the weekly Industry Nite at the Oriental Hotels to celebrate. NET had earlier reported D’banj making his first ever post-Mo’Hits public appearance at the weekly gig where he gave a surprise performance with artiste of the night Ikechukwu.

We’re still working to get details of the deal particulars, but sources say talks started weeks before  both acts met in the US. D’banj and Davido were both spotted at the famous strippers joint - Diamonds Of Atlanta Gentlemans Club in Atlanta.

Davido’s manager when contacted however played down the news of the signing insisting that both parties are still in talks. ‘We are still in talks, that’s all I have to say for now, it could take a day or a year‘, Asa Asika told NET in a phone conversation.

D’banj’s camp was yet to respond to our E-mails as at the time of filing in this report.

D’banj recently signed to Mercury Records UK through the G.O.O.D Music label imprint.

Davido had until now remained an unsigned act but has in the past year risen to A-list status with just three singles out.

He now joins D’banj’s younger brother KSwitch on the label which, according to insiders, will be affiliated to Island Def Jam Africa.

Arriving on board a special golden liveried British Airways flight from Athens, the Airbus plane 'Firefly' Flight 2012 touched down at RNAS Culdrose, Cornwall at 7.25pm.
The flame was held in four different lanterns, which were fastened into specially designed cradles in seats 1A and 1B for the near four-hour flight from Athens.
It was carried down the steps of the plane by Princess Anne, who was followed by Games chairman Seb Coe, London mayor Boris Johnson and former England captain David Beckham.
A welcoming party including Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg greeted the delegation as they stepped off the plane - dubbed the 'custard-coloured comet' by Mr Johnson
The distinctive gold London 2012 torch was then lit from the lantern and was passed to Beckham.
He then climbed on to a stage and used the torch to light a cauldron at the air-sea rescue base, where it will burn overnight.

BRITISH MUSICIAN SUFFERS ELECTRIC SHOCK AT LAGOS CONCERT

A lovely night of beautiful music and live performance from the popular UK band The Invisible at the MUSON Centre put together by the British Council on Thursday, May 17, 2012 was cut short by an equipment malfunction causing the electrocution of the band’s lead member.

The exclusive concert, featuring the UK band and Nigerian music icon King Sunny Ade, was a prelude to the BT River of Music, ‘a weekend of free music from across the 204 Olympic and Paralympic nations to be presented at iconic sites along the River Thames on July 21 and 22, 2012.

The UK band had earlier featured in a panel discussion with legendary juju singer King Sunny Ade where they discussed about ‘River of music artiste collaboration’  between KSA and The Invisible, and the ‘heritage, influences and the contemporary’ in Nigerian music. The session was moderated by NET publisher Ayeni Adekunle.

The band then got on stage and jammed for about 20 minutes. Despite the poor sound quality, The Invisible still delivered a fabulous set for over 20 minutes with respected music producer Laolu Akins joining the quartet on stage to support on the congas, while they performed Blo‘s ‘Preacher Man’. Akins was a member of Blo, a Nigerian group that reigned in the 70s.

The band was waiting for highlife singer Wizboyy to step on stage when the lead guitarist and singer Dave Okumu was electrocuted by the strings of a bass guitar. Apparently, the musical equipment was not well setup and power not grounded.

Okumu screamed and collapsed, as his colleague pulled the guitar off him.

‘I’ve never seen anything like this in my life’, a shocked guest told us.

Guests were shocked to see Okumu fall to the floor but were relieved to see him recover minutes later as  crew members assisted him walk off stage just right after he gave out a cheerful laughter.

The show was cancelled and guests, disappointed, left the Agip Recital Hall reluctantly. The high profile audience included Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, Funke Kuti, Yinka Davies, Theo Lawson, Audu Maikori, Toni Kan, Akin Oyebode, Folake Ani-Mumuni, and others.

Sources say the equipment’s power supply was not well grounded and the resistance was quite low hence electric current passing through musical instruments.

The sound engineer, a certain Mr Emeka however insists that wasn’t true but could not determine what the problem was at that time.

Findings however show that the incident had happened twice during sound check but the degree of damage wasn’t severe then, and organisers thought the problem had been fixed.

I didn’t see what happened, I was backstage, preparing to come on later’, veteran rapper Weird MC who was billed to perform, told NET.

Okumu is doing fine, according to sources who spoke with us this evening.

Shocker for Jonathan: Northern Govs Defend Buhari

The 19 northern governors on Thursday rose in defence of the Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari’s party on Wednesday had described the Jonathan administration as the “most corrupt ever,” in response to the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party’s attacks on his person over a comment in which the retired General threatened bloodshed in 2015 if the government dared rig the elections.
The northern governors on Thursday said Buhari’s comment was in order, observing that many eminent Nigerians had made worse comments.
Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Babangida Aliyu, during a question-and-answer session with journalists after the Forum’s meeting in Kaduna, noted that Buhari had only sought to keep the Federal Government on its toes in order to ensure a free-and-fair election in 2015.
Aliyu is the governor of Niger State and a member of the PDP. Like Aliyu, the majority of the northern governors belong to the PDP.
The PDP had said that Buhari was bloodthirsty and suffering from “combat withdrawal syndrome.”
Aliyu, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, explained that what Buhari meant was that govenment should not ‘go and do bad election.’
He noted that Buhari’s statement was subject to different interpretation and cautioned eminent Nigerians against further inflammatory statements that could heat up the polity.
He said, “In a democratic system every individual has his ways and there are many of us whose ways of communication are quite different from others. Give the same statement to somebody, he may have used a different vocabulary.
“Again, certain facts are understood, that if this happens that would happen, I think it is a natural thing to do. Maybe those who may be too concerned have not looked at what other eminent Nigerians have been talking about.
“I saw one that said Nigeria is going to be Somalianised. I saw another one who has been talking like there would be war tomorrow. That statement should be taken on its own value.
“All of us who are involved in elections – political parties, contestants and voters themselves – we must all be careful so that there would be a semblance of good in whatever we do. But, again, like I said, certain people are so much in that position, they should be careful with certain vocabularies they use. So, both ways let’s take it on our own strides and ensure that future elections are seemed to be transparent and are seemed to be good.”
Buhari had made his now controversial comment while hosting members of the CPC from Niger State who had paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna.
“God willing, by 2015, something will happen. They either conduct a free and fair election or they go a very disgraceful way. If what happened in 2011 (alleged rigging) should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood,’’ he reportedly told his party men.
The Presidency had issued a quick response via a statement by Jonathan’s spokesman, Reuben Abati, saying Buhari’s statement was saddening and not worthy of a statesman.
The PDP, in an earlier reaction, had lambasted Buhari and asked the Federal Government to engage him in order to cure him of what the party said was “combat withdrawal syndrome” haunting the ex-head of state.
“If the retired general was suffering from combat withdrawal syndrome, then the Federal Government should allow him to lead the ECOWAS military contingent to Mali or Guinea Bissau to enable him an opportunity to exorcise the bloodletting demons apparently haunting him,” publicity secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, said at press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.
However, the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria had also on Wednesday lent its support to Buhari’s warning.
‘’We hold no brief for anyone. But it is true that if elections are rigged, as they have been so shamelessly and brazenly done by the PDP since 1999, naturally people will react, and in doing so it is impossible for anyone to predict how far things can go,” the party said in a statement by its spokesman, Lai Mohammed.
In a communiqué by the northern governors on Thursday, they noted the worsening state of security in their region and resolved to intensify efforts at finding lasting solutions to the problem by reaching out to all stakeholders.
The communiqué reads in part, “The alarming state of insecurity in the Northern states was discussed, thereafter, the Forum resolved as follows:
“We shall intensify efforts to find lasting solutions to the problem by reaching out to all stakeholders.
“The Forum cautioned eminent Nigerians against making inflammatory statement capable of affecting our fragile unity and security. We must be concerned with unity and development of the country in all ramifications.”
Meanwhile, the South-East chapter of the PDP on Thursday cautioned Buhari and described his contentious statement as “incendiary and bereft of patriotic intent.”
The PDP’s national vice-chairman in the zone, Col. Austin Akobundu (retd.), in a statement, applauded the prompt reaction of the Presidency and PDP to Buhari’s “outbursts.”
“The lamentable and wanton killing of South-Easterners, the shedding of the blood of our promising graduates on National Youth Service, soon after a similar speech by the CPC Presidential candidate after he lost the 2011 elections, informed the urgency of our speaking out now,” Akobundu said.

Photos: Too young to have sexy boobs. Good or Bad tryouts?

Over the years we have seen that female kids always wish to be like the grown ups; talk like them, and have the appearance of those way older than them. This craving makes them resort to using clothes to create those shapes they thirst for, and many of us usually laugh at the scenario-telling them their time will come. A lot of Nigerian women do not take it as likely as we think it should be taken, they think such children are on the verge of getting spoiled and so should be severely dealt with on that. Would you go for: laughing over such cravings or punishing the child not to try it again.

On a lighter mood also, which of the groups got the swag intact?

IS THIS TRUE!!!: U.I Orders the Removal of Curtains from all Rooms in Halls of Residents

University of Ibadan

Rumors reaching us claims that U.I have ordered the removal of curtains from all rooms in the halls of residents. We guess this could be related to the rift between the school and the students. The porters and Abefele (U.I security) have been ordered to strictly adhere to this instruction.

What right do dey have to interfer with people's privacy, even if there is a need for it, can't they just wait till students resume.
