Normalcy Returns as New Doctors Resume Work

Doctors

Health services are gradually being restored in Lagos State hospitals, with the resumption of some of the 373 newly-recruited doctors.
Some of the doctors were seen yesterday attending to patients, who had turned up for treatment.
The doctors were hired on May 7, following the dismissal of 788 doctors by the government. The sacked doctors had refused to answer queries issued to them for embarking on a strike without following due process.
The doctors assumed duty after two weeks of paralysed medical services caused by the commencement of the strike on April 24.
At the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that some wards, which were previously locked, had been opened but there was a low turnout of patients.
One of the new doctors, who pleaded for anonymity, told NAN that the low turnout was because most patients were not aware that the doctors had resumed work.
He said: “Because we are few, our impact has yet to be felt in the hospitals and most Lagosians are still not aware that we have resumed. We are hoping that by next week, things will pick up.
At the Isolo General Hospital, some  doctors were  attending to the patients.
Mrs Cecilia Nwachukwu, who brought her child for treatment, said they  were quickly attended to as there were not many patients.
She said it took less than an hour for consultation with the doctor and getting drugs at the pharmacy, which was not the case before.
Her words: “It took less than an hour to see the doctor and we have also bought medicine that was prescribed by the doctor.
“This was not the case before when we had to wait for hours before seeing the doctor.”
Two  doctors also assumed duty at the Randle General Hospital, Surulere.

Robbers Raid ABSUTH’s Labour Room

- Culled From DailySun

Armed robbers, in the wee hours of yesterday raided the labour room and two other departments in Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH’s) old site in Aba, dispossessing women in labour, patients and staffers of their personal belongings including cash, handsets and jewelries.

The robbers, numbering about five were said to have gained entry into the hospital’s premises at about 2am through the fence bordering the teaching hospital with a hotel located behind the health institution. On gaining entry, they made straight to the Central Delivery Unit (CDU), where they forced pregnant women, who were inside the labour room and others waiting in the unit to be delivered of their babies, to lie face down .

One of the victims of the incident, Daily Sun gathered was delivered of twins few moments after the robbers left. After dispossessing the women at the CDU of their valuables, the robbers made for to the Post Natal Ward (PNW), where they equally ordered nursing mothers, some of who were delivered of their babies few hours back, to lie face down before carting away their belongings.

However, the operation at the PNW was dramatic. It was gathered that when the robbers entered the ward, they were said to have pretended as pastors, who had come to help the women in prayers and were indeed leading the unsuspecting staff and patients in prayers, when all of a sudden, they brought out their guns and ordered their victims to lie down and bring out all they had on them, which the robbers made away with.
A female victim of the robbery incident, who was on admission in one of the wards, narrated her experience to Daily Sun: “At the early hours of that day, at about 2 am, I saw someone peeping through the door to our ward.

“Since there was no light to see his face clearly, I pointed my touch light towards his direction and he warned me seriously. At the initial stage, I thought he was one of the security men attached to the hospital and I told him I was sorry for flashing my touch light at him.

“Within seconds, he forcefully entered the ward with three others well armed and forced everybody including those in the labour room to lie face down and then they collected all we had, including N10, 000 from a man whose wife was to be operated upon that morning before they left. He had wanted to pay the money as deposit for his wife’s operation.”
Daily Sun gathered that despite the fact that ABSUTH’s old site was within a shouting distance from the headquarters of the Aba Area Command of the Nigeria Police, this was not the first time armed robbers would be raiding the hospital.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Joe Onwuka confirmed the robbery incident but failed to make further comments.

The area commander, Rabiu Dayi was said to be away from the state on official duty, but a senior police officer, who spoke on anonymity said police had not received any report on the incident.

FG Deploys New Bomb Detectors at Airports

-Culled From ThisDAy Live
Reacting to the increased security threat in the country, the Federal Government has deployed more bomb detectors and search mirrors at the nation’s airports.
THISDAY learnt on Wednesday that the bomb detectors have been deployed at every access road to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos (MMIA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has embarked on massive training of aviation security officials to meet with the current spate of security threats in the country.
“Awareness has doubled. In the past if we see a bag we overlook it but now the situation has changed. Besides the incident of last night when anti bomb squad diffused a suspected bag at E, arrival of the Lagos airport, even this morning (Wednesday)somebody kept his bag at the terminal and left for the car park because he did not want to pay for the trolley, but before he came back the bag was impounded.
The police and other security operatives know that people’s lives may be in danger so they have to be extra vigilant,” the official said.
The bomb detector was one of the planned security equipment that would be deployed at the airports as the senior security official said that the every effort was being made to ensure that the security at the nation’s airports was not caught napping by terrorists.
“We have intensified training of security personnel and we have acquired new equipment and more are still to come. We have deployed bomb detectors, we have got some but we need 20 more to cover all the airports in the country. We have already deployed the bomb detectors at the airports in Kano, Abuja and Lagos.”
The official said that one of the major challenges at the Lagos airport was the many access roads to the terminal, saying that the airport needs many of the bomb detectors and what is good about the detectors was the fact that it is mobile and could be moved about, depending on the situation on ground.
Also FAAN is building speed breakers near the terminals to ensure that vehicles maintain a controlled speed while approaching the facilities.
The bomb detectors are operated by those trained to handle them along with well-armed policemen and suspicious vehicles are forced to stop in their stride by blocking them from getting near the terminal.
Many of the new equipment the official said would start arriving from next week as every effort would be made to ensure that all necessary high tech equipment is provided to secure the airports in the country.

2 Rep Members to Face Trial Over Alleged N44m Fraud

An Abuja High Court yesterday granted the request of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to arraign Herman Hembe, the former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Capital Market and Other Financial Institutions.??Justice Abubakar Umar also granted permission to EFCC to arraign the former Vice Chairman of the committee, Chris Azubogu, over corruption charges.

The EFCC had, through its Counsel, Mr Onjekwu Obe, filed an application for leave to prefer a two-count criminal charge against the duo, under section 185 (d) of the Criminal Procedure Code. Obe said the application for seeking leave of the court to prefer a criminal charge was made under Section 185(B) of the Criminal Procedure Code. He said: “I hereby apply for leave to prefer a criminal charge against the above named accused persons.

“Attached herewith are the following documents: a copy of the charge in respect of which leave is sought, and a verifying affidavit. “Others are names and addresses of the witnesses, statements of the witnesses and that of the two accused persons and other documentary evidences.’’
In his ruling, Umar granted the application, and said that from the proof of evidence presented by the EFCC, Hembe and Azubogu are to be arraigned on Thursday, May 17.

“The application to prefer a criminal charge against Hon. Herman Hembe and Hon. Chris Azubogu has merit,’’ he added.
Obe told newsmen that with the consent given by the judge, Hembe and Azubogu would now be arraigned on May 17 on a two-count charge, bordering on misappropriation of public funds. He said the EFCC investigations revealed that Hembe and Azubogu were the two key actors in the N44 million fraud allegation rocking the House of Representatives Committee on Capital Market and Other Institutions.

The EFCC counsel added that investigations also revealed that the two had confessed they did not attend the workshop for which they collected money from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He also said that investigations further revealed that Hembe and Azubogu collected Estacode from SEC to attend a capacity building workshop in the Dominican Republic but never did.

Their confession, the counsel said, came on the day the EFCC launched a probe into the N30 million hotel bill allegedly incurred by SEC’s Director-General, Ms Arunma Oteh. “EFCC has enough evidence to present to court and is ready to begin its case,'' the counsel said.

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar

The symposium has as its theme, “Islam and Peaceful Co-existence in a Contemporary Multi- Religious Society.’

We Are Ready to Negotiate With Boko Haram -FG

THE Federal Government, in collaboration with some traditional rulers, is set to bring the Boko Haram sect to the negotiating table, with a view to ending the menace of violence triggered by the sect and its activities that have claimed many lives, the Minister of Defence, Dr Bello Haliru Mohammed, has disclosed.

Speaking on Thursday, when he received the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Roberto Colamine, in his office, Mohammed, who made this disclosure, noted that the Federal Government was committed to the speedy resolution of the crises that had hindered progress in the country.

“The concern of the government is peace and what the government is doing is for the benefits of all Nigerians,” he said.

According to him, the security challenges posed by the Boko Haram sect were temporary, adding that with dedication and hard work, the challenges posed by the group had been restricted to some few local government areas, even when their original intention was to make Nigeria ungovernable.

He assured that President Goodluck Jonathan was determined to make the difference in the governance of the country with the transformation agenda, adding that the changes being envisaged would make the citizens embrace positive ways of doing things.

The minister said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Nigerian government and the Italian government, which, he said, would enhance Nigerian peacekeeping efforts, was awaiting the ratification of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

7 killed, 10 injured as Fulanis Invade Plateau

NO fewer than seven people were brutally killed while 10 others sustained injuries in an early morning attack by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the assailants, in their large number, stormed Rinyam-Tahoss village in the local government area in the early hours of Thursday, while the people were still in bed.

It was learnt that the suspected Fulani herdsmen, who laid ambush and positioned themselves at various strategic parts of the village, fired several volleys of gunshots into the air to herald their arrival in the village.

A source close to the local government revealed that the marauders shot the seven people who were trying to escape into the nearby bush while those who sustained injuries were hacked down with cutlasses.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that after two hours of uninterrupted assault, the assailants bolted away before the arrival of men of the Special Task Force who arrived one hour after the suspected Fulani herdsmen had disappeared.

The seven people killed were four adults and three children while those who  sustained injuries are currently at the Vom Christian Hospital, receiving treatment.

The entire Riyom Local Government Area has been under severe attack by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen and close to 80 people have been killed in the past one month in various villages within the council area.

Some journalists also escaped death narrowly at Kak village in the council area recently, when a group of armed Fulani herdsmen  on the prowl in the council, opened fire on their convoy

Confirming the incident, the member representing Riyom constituency in the state House of Assembly, Honourable Daniel Dem, condemned the attack and described it as unfortunate and called on the government to save his people from total annihilation.

“The attack has become a daily occurrence. Today, alone, seven  people were shot dead and several others are receiving treatment from  gunshots and matchete cuts at the Vom Christian Hospital. I want to appeal to my people to remain calm and not to take laws into their own hands, as appropriate measures are being taken to bring to an end the senseless killings,” he said.

The legislator lamented that despite the fact that the local government is under a state of emergency, people are being killed on a daily basis and  called on the security personnel deployed in the area to be proactive and bring the culprits to book.

What is happening to our Naija Babes

PHOTO: ...Genevieve Nnaji's Baby For D'Banj?

Sultry and versatile Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji was recently spotted with a new born baby.

Before now, there have been speculation about Genevieve in hot romance with the Kokomaster, D'Banj.

But before you guess if this is the product of their 'speculated' er*tic relationship, Coded-ish will like to inform you that your guess is very wrong.

According to what we gathered, the baby in the picture is Genevieve's niece. The baby was given birth to by her elder sister named Chioma.

Genevieve already has a daughter as a single mother. She recently clocked 33.

Is Genny, as she is fondly called by friends, not looking sweet as a nursing mother in this picture? Is she planning to tie the knot soon? We hope to get an invite as soon as possible.

Davido, Dr Frabz, Shank In Fierce Public Fight Over Money

www.coded-ish.blogspot.com

Decorum was lost and thrown in the gutters some days ago when the trio of Davido, Dr Frabz and Shank spread their dirty linens outside.

From what we gathered, Shank took to twitter to open the can of worms between he and Dr Frabz over money owed the former by the latter.

He tweeted, "big man, pay me my money" which was not responded to by Dr Frabz until Davido intervened with his 'Laughing My As* Out (lmao)' tweet.

This got Dr Frabz angry and also forced a reply, "David, you are advised to stay out of the matter for your own sake."

In another tweet, Dr Frabz got his own pay back on Shank when he tweeted, "I guess you are now happy about disgracing yourself all over twitter?

"Clap for yourself! You loose! It's your turn now, PAY ME MY MONEY for the songs I produced for you if you want it. Fo*l."

As if this was not enough, Dr Frabz further tweeted, "and pay my PA the money you've been owing him for months. He sold clothes to you. Didn't he?"

This is not the first time Nigerian celebrities have gone public to fight on twitter.

Ruggedman, Goldie, Terry G, MI and others have all engaged one another at one time on twitter.

Baby Boy Born With Quran In Lagos, Nigeria [PICTURES]

Controversy is presently raging through Mushin area of Lagos State Nigeria following the birth of a baby boy born holding a mini Holy Quran.

This baby boy was delivered at a white garment church in Mushin, Lagos State.

While some dispute the claim, others say it is possible. A large crowd gathered at 1, Sonde Street, Ijeshatedo, Lagos home of the boy’s parents yesterday, as news of the birth spread rapidly.

Mother’s Comment On Baby Boy Born With Quran In Lagos State, Nigeria

The baby mother, Mrs. Kikelomo Ilori, 32, a Cosmetologist by profession told reporters she delivered him on Monday after she had carried the pregnancy for about 10 months.

The single mother claimed she was abandoned by her husband who denied responsibility for the pregnancy and encouraged her to abort it.

“When I refused to abort the pregnancy, he deserted me, saying ‘that is your own problem’.” Mrs. Ilori expressed surprise at the birth of the boy. She added that the nurse who delivered her of the baby was physically challenged, but went about it commendably.

“When my baby was delivered holding a Quran in his hand, the nurse said the Quran should be thrown away. But I insisted my mother must see it before any action could be taken,” Kikelomo, who is a Christian,
 further explained.

Corroborating the story, Senior Rev. Victoria Yetunde Dada said during the pregnancy, Kikelomo was always coming to her for prayers and counselling.

“I advised her not to abort the pregnancy because she might die in the process. Again, I told her the foetus was sent by God and will be great,” Apostle Mother Dada told our correspondent. Controversy has continued to trail the seemingly spurious claim.

Doctor’s Reaction To Baby Born With Quran In Lagos

Reacting, Medical Director of Bodet Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, Dr. Bode Tawak said scientifically, it was not possible for a baby to be born holding a Quran.

“How big is the baby’s hand to hold the Quran? How big is the Quran? How did the Quran get into her mother’s womb? I don’t know how a Quran can get into a womb. But there are things you can’t explain,” Dr. Tawak responded. He said while the incident cannot be explained medically, in Nigeria many mysterious things happen. A Kaduna-based medical practitioner, Dr. Munir Yusuf said from a medical point of view, it was not possible, but added that depending on the size of the Quran, it was possible metaphysically.

He explained that if the Quran is small enough to pass through the diameter of the vagina, with the child, it is possible. In the same vein, a herbal medicine practitioner, Chief Dr. Bola Adegunloye believes nothing is impossible, but said too much importance must not be placed on the incident.

[VIDEO]: ANOTHER OF TB JOSHUA'S PROPHECIES COME TO PASS!

Click for Full Image Size

As news hit international media on Thursday Morning that the wreckage of the Russian aircraft that mysteriously went missing mid-flight in Indonesia yesterday had been seen, a YouTube video has been released from a controversial Nigerian pastor, claiming he predicted the calamity.

“I’m seeing breaking news. They are looking for something that missed but it carried people – a plane that carried people and it was lost,” the video shows T.B. Joshua of ‘The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations’ saying. Giving a more detailed appraisal, he continued, “There is a plane coming to Indonesia, a big one that will carry passengers. I see a crash. The color of the plane – I see blue… I’m seeing Wednesday. What will happen on Wednesday?”

The incident involving a Russian Sukhoi Superjet plane that crashed into mountains in Indonesia on Wednesday seems to confirm the prediction, blue being the predominant color in all Sukhoi-made plane designs. About 45 people are said to have been on board the aircraft, including eight Russian pilots and technicians, Indonesian airline representatives and journalists. The jet vanished from radar screens 50 minutes after taking off from Jakarta for a brief demonstration flight. The spokesman for the rescue effort, Gagah Prakoso, said a number of bodies had been found. "So far we haven't found any survivors, but we are still searching," he said.

T.B. Joshua is a household name across Africa for his predictions, miracles and charitable endeavors. He recently caused a stir with media reports of his prophecy of the demise of Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika. “In April… we should pray for an African head of state against the sickness that will take life – sudden death,” Joshua told his congregation in February, stressing the event was close and specifying the president in question was from West Africa in a service just four days before Mutharika’s passing.

Man Caught Secretly Filming Female Boss in Toilet

A 39-year-old man who attempted to spy on his female boss using a camera in a toilet has been sentenced to 80 hours of community service.
The ACT Magistrates Court heard former public servant Wyatt Chu had not wired up the receiver at his desk and had tried to retrieve the camera before anything happened, but was caught after the camera fell and was discovered by the intended victim.
Magistrate Graeme Lunney said it was an extremely personal breach of a relationship between two people who had worked together for several years and the consequences for the victim had been very serious.
But the magistrate said he did accept that Chu was genuinely remorseful and placed him on an 18-month good behaviour bond in addition to the community service.
Chu has also been fined $1,100 for separate firearms offences.

Goldie’s Revelation: ‘My Favourite Séx Position’

Goldie is in the building. The controversial ‘Touch my Body’ singer, who is signed to Kennis Music recently spoke to online radio Zoodrums regarding her image, her relationships with other artistes in the industry, and even answered some naughty questions. You’ll enjoy it…

Let me start by asking what is your least favourite séxual position?

I wouldn’t know because I haven’t tried one that I didn’t like yet, so if I did try one that I didn’t like, I would…

So what’s your favourite séx position?

 I think I’m very old school…hmmm. The missionary style…

No. That’s wrong. Goldie is not allowed to do it the Missionary style.

 I’m not?

You are not. You are Goldie, you are crazy. You wear all these outlandish out fits and people are supposed to go like ‘What the hell’ when they look at you.

We are really the timid ones in the end.

Really?

(Laughs) Don’t get the wrong impression…(laughs) Everybody thinks I’m this monster, let people know that I am boring.

You’ve been on the scene for a few years and then someone, for example, Tiwa Savage, just swoops in. How does it feel when you go for events and people are all over an artiste like Tiwa Savage? Do they react more because of the raunchy séxual image or the pretentious one?

I wouldn’t say Tiwa Savage just swooped in. She’s been someone who has been doing music for a long time …

I mean in the Nigerian system.

You have to understand that music comes from a long while back. This repertoire is on her profile. If you see someone that has been signed on Sony Music as a song writer for five years. Someone who has done competitions, she tried to compete in X factor and you saw the pain when she was turned down. She just deserves a break, and besides, she’s a hard worker. She’s talented and a fantastic person. She was around for my birthday and she was like I’m going to come and eat jollof rice and she tweeted it ‘Goldie, your rice rocks’. Tiwa is like the sweetest female artiste. You cannot hate on her. You have to love her. For all, I think she deserves all she gets.

Are you going to be doing collaborations with her?

We have spoken about it severally, we’re just looking for a subject matter.

What do you think it’s going to sound like?

I don’t know, but we are just looking for a proper subject matter that would be true to me and true to her.
