#CODED-ish Gist:: We are not ashamed to be called the church of the rich – Oyedepo

The Founder of Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, in an interview with Saturday Punch said the reason there are so many rich people in 33 year old church is because they know better than others and understand the importance of tithe (Let's not start with this tithe talk abeg, if I start now, we will start fighting here...lol). Anyway below is excerpts from the interview...
Why are there so many rich people in Winners?
Because they know better than their contemporaries. If you don’t know what you have, you won’t know if you are deprived of it. The Bible is an open chequebook, it is by revelation we access what belongs to us; by faith we take delivery of it. Someone had access to our empowerment programme and she is a pepper seller, while others sell one basket a day, she sells six, seven. I learnt she had become the envy of all the pepper sellers in her area. Such person has an understanding that whatever she does, she prospers and she knows that when she pays her tithe, she experiences open heavens. But in case people don’t know, they perish for lack of knowledge, and in case they think when you are rich you miss heaven, then they perish for lack of knowledge.
So, it’s right when people claim that this church is only for the rich?
It’s for all the people who believe that Jesus already paid for them to be rich. And those who don’t believe, when they come they start believing when they see it happen in a lot of people’s lives. And we are not ashamed to be called the church of the rich. If they call your family poor, will you be excited? Nobody would be excited. Even when a family is poor, they hate to be called poor. No man in his right mind enjoys being called poor, and nobody truly wants to be poor, people may pretend. Which is more honourable between being a giver and a beggar? Most of us came in very poor, but the light of God’s word came on us and we walked out of poverty in grand style into wealth and riches.

How come there is such wealth in the church despite the poverty in the nation?
The kingdom of God is funded by God’s resources. We are not funded by the economy of the world, but by the economy of the kingdom, which has a budget for all of its agenda on earth. We’ve been here since 1999 and we have never had power outage or water shortage. The main players are Nigerians, the builders are Nigerians. There is no building here that any foreign expert took part in. There is no foreign company’s presence here, including the tabernacle. Some of the revered foreign companies here in Nigeria are technicians in Germany, and they are all political contractors, not that they have something special to offer.

#CODED-ish Gist:: Soldiers shaves man's hair because it was too bushy

Don't know whether to be sad or be amused by this story. Some army officers now go around shaving people's hair? According to a LIB reader, that happened to his nephew in Warri. His story below...
Something happened recently in Warri and I'd be grateful if you can share it on your blog so that people can be more aware of the madness perpetuated by army officers who are supposed to be protecting the citizens of this great nation.
On Monday the 19th of May, 2014, my nephew was a lone passenger in a Keke (commercial tricycle) on his way back from work along PTI road, Effurun. The Keke was flagged down by some soldiers for no obvious reason. They told him to come down and kneel down which he did. Before he could grasp what was going on, they had started to shave off his hair with a pair of scissors, claiming that his hair was too bushy. Attached is a picture of what his hair looked like when he arrived home.
Can't a responsible young man move about freely in his country anymore or is this a further attempt to provoke youths to restiveness? Unfortunately, the soldiers, who had been terrorizing residents and passersby in that area the whole day, had no name tags on their uniforms. The army Toyota Hilux with registration number 148 is the only exhibit by which can be traced.

#CODED-ish News::18 Years After 2Pac's Death Policeman Reveals His LAST WORDS!

Almost 18 years after the most renowned rapper of all times Tupac Shakur had left this world, new details of the last moments of his life surfaced online.

Former policeman Chris Carroll, who arrived at the scene where 2Pac had been shot several times, said that he pulled the bleeding rapper out of the car.

According to TMZ report, Carroll wanted to know who shot him, thus he kept asking "Who shot you?" over and over again. But the 25-year-old rap icon said only one and the last thing in response: "F*** YOU."

Already unconscious Shakur was rushed to the hospital and died 6 days later without coming to himself.

Tupac Amaru Shakur popularly referred to as 2Pac became one of the most best selling musicians and was already crowned a legend while alive. Interestingly he started as a dancer and soon became a successful solo artist.

His career was meteoric though swift-flowing, as in 1996 he was shot in his car by the unknown. The rapper's last album was released after his death.

#CODED-ish News:: UN Finally Blacklists Boko Haram

#CODED-ish Gist:: Nicki Minaj Blasts Forbes on article claiming Iggy Azalea runs HipHop

Nicki Minaj has responded to a Forbes article published on May 19th titled “Hip Hop Is Run By a White, Blonde, Australian Woman.”, describing rapper Izzy Azalea as the new princess of hip hop. The mag said while Minaj has been 'oddly quiet for months', Iggy's rise in the charts has been swift.

The comment made Nicki feel some type of way and when asked about it on Power 105′s The Breakfast Club yesterday, Nicki said;
“Listen. All Forbes needs to worry about is my finances and when I’m going to be selling Myx Fusions for $250 million. That’s all they need to worry about. We rely on hip-hop connoisseurs and blogs for that kind of information. So we appreciate it, but no thank you

#CODED-ish News:: Jonathan may be Nigeria's last president -former Gov. Orji Uzor Kalu

Former Governor of Abia state, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, while speaking with airport correspondents yesterday as he returned from a trip to the UK, said if things are not properly checked politically, President Jonathan might be the last president Nigeria will have.
"When I was travelling precisely on the 26 of April, I left this airport and I spoke to the airport correspondents and I said there was a need to collaborate with international organisations. You see, this issue is not about President Goodluck Jonathan. If we don’t take time and work together as Nigerians, Jonathan might be the last Nigerian President. Jonathan might be the Gorbachev of Nigeria. And that is the truth, so we better wake up. Political class, business class, military, civilians must now stand up to work for our internal security. Internal security is more important than anything we have done and I believe that once we are able to come together Nigeria will be alright. As of now the country is in pains; the country is in problem and some people are taking it very lightly.
We are suffering from pains of our people; we are suffering from pains of the Nigerian system. This is not about which part of the country you come from, it is about Nigeria. Nigerian people should take what is happening seriously and I am surprised that the political class and the private sector are still joking with this matter. This is a serious matter. Anybody’s child can be kidnapped; whether it is at Chibok or any other place, Nigerian should take this matter seriously. Can you imagine how many Nigerians that have been killed; how many of us that have been wounded. I want people to be as wise as my grandmother. I want people to take this matter seriously. Those girls kidnapped are our sisters; they are our daughters. It is because none of us has lost anybody that is why to some people; it is looking like a joke. We should stop taking this as a joke and take the matter very seriously in order to move forward.
We should not lose what we have. We should be able to come together as one family and fight because if we don’t take time; I repeat it for the second time, Jonathan will be the last president of the name Nigeria. Government can negotiate formerly or informally. It can send agents to negotiate on its behalf without getting involved. The US does this in Afghanistan and other places. It can negotiate formerly or informally” he said

#CODED-ish Gist:: True Confession Of A Corper

Written by Livecashless customer...
Getting posted to the north came as a big surprise to me because I thought I had put everything in place to ensure I was posted to Lagos. Nike, Tunji, Emeka, Dotun and the rest of them were all posted to Lagos, why me!!! Why did they send me here? Anyway I have to serve my country. I arrived camp late in the night and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. There were civilized people in this part of the country and camp was even better. A lot of pretty ladies and in little time I got myself acquainted with as many as I could. Zara was a bit different, she was calm, collected and the most fascinating thing about her was the fact that she could fix electrical things, how cool is that! 3 weeks rolled by and we were set to leave camp, Zara and I were posted to the same community but to different schools, we had a corpers lodge and that’s where we stayed. We were like husband and wife because we did everything for each other. She would help me fix my spoilt electrical appliances and in return I would help her with water. After about 3 weeks in our new PPA, we ran out of cash.
All I had was N30 and she had N75 and absolutely NOTHING in our bank accounts. *see gobe* I thought to myself. It was 11am on a bright Saturday morning, we would have to wait till Monday morning before we could be sent money ….”you’re good with fixing things, fix this hunger in my stomach before I faint o”I said to Zara. She laughed so hard her phone dropped on the floor. That was a simple joke I racked to lighten our mood. She dusted her phone and moved some feet away from me. I could only see her mouth moving but couldn’t hear her conversation over the phone….after about 3 minutes she beckoned at me and said “let’s go, you this hungry boy”.
We put the money together and boarded a tricycle and after walking for about 10 minutes we got to magrelos a fast food with more meal on their menu than customers. It’s a hungry man’s haven. I would have been happy if that was our destination, I could smell their freshly baked bread from across the road and it all just increased the activity of the worms in my stomach, the hunger just doubled. She crossed the road and I followed, opened the door of the eatery and that was where I refused to enter. Zara we both know we’re broke, what are we doing here? I asked .  Just follow me joor she said. When she started ordering was when I started shaking, I can’t wash plates to settle my debts o I thought. At that moment the waiter asked what I wanted and I started to stammer. Zara laughed her heart out because she knew my fears, she handed over her bank cards and my heart sank, the POS printed a receipt to my surprise, but but…how did that happen?  After gouging myself with fried rice, grilled chicken and salad then ordered extra take away for later consumption, guilt started to set in and I was forced to ask “how did you do all this” Her dad had transferred funds to her account and she paid for all the food using POS. What a wonderful way to learn about instant transfers, over lunch with my super hero friend.

#CODED-ish News:: Dr. Ben Carson’s Considering a Run for President in 2016.

Dr. Ben Carson commanded applause on “The View” when he said the welfare state is not helping Americans as it should.
The retired neurosurgeon’s comments yesterday garnered loud applause from the audience as well as accolades from actor Terry Crews, another guest on the talk show.
The gist of what Carson said:
When you rob someone of their incentive to go out there and improve themselves, you are not doing them any favors.  When you take someone and pat them on the head and say ‘There, there, you poor little thing … I’m going to give you food stamps, housing subsidies, free health care’ … You can’t do that.  What would be much more empowering is to use our intellect and our resources to give those people a way up and out.
Carson, who has exhibited conservative star power on the lecture circuit, recently released a new book and confirmed that he is considering a run for president in 2016.

#CODED-ish News:: Segun Arinze asks NFVCB boss to resign over Half Of A Yellow Sun

A few weeks ago, the film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie's book Half of a Yellow Sun was to hit our cinema screens...but it was stopped. I heard the reason it was removed was because of the theme of the movie, the Hausa killing Ibo/biafra war story and because of the current situation in Nigeria, some scenes were asked to be cut from the movie by the Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board. I don't know if the scenes have been cut or what exactly is going on right now, but NFVCB has still refused to let the movie show in the cinemas.

Actor and former Actors' Guild of Nigeria president Segun Arinze is now calling for the resignation of the Director-General of the Censors Board. His statement below...
Please tell Madam Patricia Bala of Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board to release the movie Half of a Yellow Sun. She has no reason to hold on to the movie. She has no right to censor the movie only to classify it. She saw it in Canada and even partnered with the producers in Canada during the premiere. What she is doing now is an embarrassment to government and a big insult to our dear industry, Nollywood. We are not in a military regime. She should kindly resign'. - Segun Arinze

#CODED-ish News:: Paul Walker’s Audi RS6 Avant For Sale on eBay

With the tragic death of Paul Walker, it was only to be expected that any vehicle driven by the late auto film star may soon find its way to a classified. One such vehicle is this Audi RS6 Avant once owned by Walker.
As the eBay post explains, the RS6 Avant is a big, bad wagon that is still not available in the United States. That makes it one of the more coveted pieces of automotive fruit– any enthusiast can tell you that. What makes this RS6 Avant even more rare is its ties to Walker.
According to the seller, the vehicle was imported from Japan in July 2003. It had to be made DOT compliant, and then was owned by Walker until October 2011, when it was sold with 69,000 miles on the odometer.

Since then, the vehicle has accrued another roughly 22K miles (91,653 miles in total). According to the post, however, the engine “suffered a malfunction” in January of 2012. A whole new engine had to be installed by Audi.

There is a pretty thorough service history, and we leave it up to any serious buyers to verify the authenticity of this vehicle. Bidding was at $57,100 at the time of this writing (reserve had not yet been met), and bidding ends on Saturday, May 24th at 2:28pm.

#CODED-ish Gist:: 7 Stars Snubbed from the Kim Kardashian & Kanye West Nuptials

When your last trip down the aisle was a televised extravaganza featuring 440 of your closest pals ... and that marriage comes to a crashing end 72 days later, it makes sense that you'd want to tone things down a bit the next time around. Thus we have today's Daily Mail article gleefully letting us know that "most" of the guests at Kim Kardashian's wedding to Kris Humphries were not invited to her wedding to Kanye West coming up this Saturday. It lists some of the snubbed specifically: Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Demi Lovato, Mel B, Ryan Seacrest, Eva Longoria, and Mario Lopez.

Who made the cut? Serena Williams, Kardashian's longtime friends Brittny Gastineau and Jonathan Cheban, socialite Rachel Roy, singer Ciara (who will have to miss the happy event because she just gave birth), and of course, Beyonce and Jay Z. Oh, and fashion journalist Andre Leon Talley-who will be covering a portion of the gala event for Vogue, according to Page Six.

Sources say guests will arrive in Paris Friday for brunch at designer Valentino Garavani's château and a private tour of the Palace of Versailles (where Kim and Kanye were sadly refused permission to actually wed). Guests, who will be given personal security and a mobile phone to ensure secrecy, will then be flown via private jet to the wedding in Florence, Italy, where daughter North West was conceived.

#CODED-ish News:: eBay Hacked, Urges All Members to Change Passwords Immediately

The online auction and sales giant eBay posted a message Wednesday morning saying that it had been hacked, urging all of its members to change their passwords.
The company said in a statement that a database containing encrypted passwords had been breached, but that financial data, including credit card information, was stored separately and was still safe. Hackers were able to gain access to eBay employee log-ins, eBay said, which in turn gave them access to the encoded passwords.
eBay says that no unauthorized transactions have yet been made with the information. But if you’re an eBay user, you still definitely need a new password.
“[C]hanging passwords is a best practice,” the statement said, “and will help enhance security for eBay users.” In the statement, which was unsigned, eBay said that the attack took place between late February and early March. Though the passwords that the hackers gained access to were encrypted, or obscured by a code to prevent easy reading, eBay did say that the hackers were able to access members’ names, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth.
The real takeaway from this: Change your eBay password (go to My eBay and open the Personal Information link you’ll see on the left). If you use the same password on multiple sites, you’ll need to change those passwords, too, should the hackers successfully break the encryption.

#CODED-ish News::OAU students protest tuition hike, block Ilesa-Ife Expressway

hundreds of commuters and motorists got stuck at the Ipetumodu area on the Ilesa-Ife Expressway on Tuesday as students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State protested against the hike in fees by the management of the university.

Undergraduates as well as postgraduate students, led by the President-elect of the Students Union, Mr. Isaac Ibikunle, marched from the campus to the expressway, which links the South West to the North, and barricaded the highway with woods and tyres.

They chanted songs and refused to yield to pleas from travellers and motorists who were held down in the ensuing gridlock.

Policemen drafted to the scene pleaded with the students to open the highway, but they remained adamant. They stated that those held in the traffic would be educated on the negative effects of the action of the Federal Government in collaboration with the management of the OAU.

The angry students were on the road until around noon when most of them left the scene for the campus to continue the ongoing examinations.

The students had assembled on the campus as early as 8am and displayed placards with various inscriptions such as, "OAU students say no to tuition increment. The poor deserve quality education too."

The students blamed the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole, for what they described as an outrageous increment.

The students, who vowed not to pay the new fees, said they would continue with the protest until the management would rescind the decision.

The new president of the students' union, who addressed the protesters, said the students would do everything to force the management to revert to the old fees.

Ibikunle said the new fees, if allowed, would force many indigents students to drop out of the school.

Ibikunle said, "The entire students of the Obafemi Awolowo University are angry because of the introduction of these outrageous fees. The dreams and aspirations of many students will end abruptly if these new fees are allowed to stand.

"The management increased the tuition from N17,000 to about N100,000 apart from N20,000 acceptance and accommodation fees. We have made several appeals to the management to revert to the old fees, but to no avail. We have exhausted all peaceful means, we have consulted unions in OAU and even the alumni body of the institution to appeal to the management, but all yielded no result.

"The VC told the leadership of the students' union during a meeting yesterday (Monday) that they were directed by the Federal Government to increase the fees. The management said that the Federal Government said it could no longer fund education.

"That is why we barricaded the Federal Government roads here in Ife. We are not here alone, we are also here with postgraduate students because the new fees affect them too. We are united against these outrageous fees and we will not stop until the management accedes to our demands."

The new fees announced by the OAU management showed that new students would pay N74,000 against N17,000 that had existed. This excluded the acceptance fee of N20, 000. The returning students would now be paying around N50,000 against N7,000 being paid before.

Efforts to speak with the management proved abortive as calls put across to the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Biodun Olanrewaju, were not answered.

#CODED-ish BookRewiew:: New Ben Carson Book - One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America's Future

Dear Reader,

In February 2013 I gave a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast. Standing a few feet from President Obama, I warned my fellow citizens of the dangers facing our country and called for a return to the principles that made America great.

Many Americans heard and responded, but our nation’s decline has continued. Today the danger is greater than ever before, and I have never shared a more urgent message than I do now.

Our growing debt and deteriorating morals have driven us far from the founders’ intent. We’ve made very little progress in basic education. Obamacare threatens our health, liberty, and financial future. Media elitism and political correctness are out of control. ....

If each of us sits back and expects someone else to take action, it will soon be too late. But with your help, I firmly believe that America may once again be “one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Sincerely,

Ben Carson

Eyewitnesses said when the bomb exploded, its force threw the baby off his mother’s arms and landed him meters away in front of their residence at No. 1 Middle Road, Sabon Gari, Kano. The baby was engulfed in thick smoke amid confusion caused by the blast.

His mother, Mrs. Joy Nnorim, who hails from Abia State and Chigozie are currently in hospital along No-man’s-land, Sabon Gari, Kano, where friends and relatives have been pouring in to rejoice with them for the lucky survival as well as praising God for His miracle. Speaking from her hospital bed, Mrs. Nnorom said that she was standing in front of their compound enjoying fresh air when the blast occurred.

Speaking in Igbo language, she stated: “I was just by the gate taking fresh air. It is normal to come out once in a while because of the hot weather. People were going about their businesses when suddenly, a blast occurred and my baby flew off my arms and I landed in another direction.”

Mrs. Nnorom, who had multiple cuts on her hands, eyes and even stomach, said it was later that she recovered her baby from a neighbour. A resident in the affected compound, Mrs. Sandra Iyke Ibeabuchi, recalled that when the blast occurred, the force threw the baby off the mother’s grip and landed him on the floor, leaving him motionless.

She said: “By the time I picked up the baby, he was motionless. The mother, who had recovered from her initial shock, saw what was happening and then began to scream: ‘My baby is dead, my baby is dead.’” According to her, the mother, who was at this time bleeding seriously, did not even realise that she was badly injured, adding: “After shaking the baby for a while, because at first, the baby was not moving and was not crying, he suddenly wept. And that cry reassured us all that he was alive.

“By time we rushed the baby to the hospital, I noticed that his pampers was unusually wet and when I tried to remove it, I discovered a deep cut by the lower region of his stomach,” she recalled. Mrs. Ibeabuchi noted that the sight of the deep cut on the baby’s body frightened her, making her to scream.

She revealed that this attracted doctors and nurses, who immediately rushed the baby to the theatre for urgent surgery. Doctors at the hospital are battling to remove the fragments of bombs lodged in the body of Mr. Kelvin Onah, another victim of the blast. When Daily Sun visited the hospital, along Emir Road, where the victim is on admission, Onah had stitches, which stretched from his mouth to the cheek and was writhing in pain.

Onah, an indigene of Mbu Agboti, in Isi Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, managed to speak. He explained that he owns a tavern situated at 1 Middle Road, revealing that he was in his shop when the bomb exploded and hit him.

Meanwhile, indications have emerged that the death toll of the blast may be slightly far more than what was confirmed by security officials.

Eyewitnesses said that they counted more than five dead bodies. They listed some of the deceased to include a meat (suya seller), the two daughters of a fish seller and fuel vendor, among others. They also noted that some of those who were rushed to the hospitals in critical conditions might not survive.

Some families are still searching for their relatives after they failed to return home last night. The scene of the bomb blast was littered with broken bottles, scattered blue and white chairs, burnt vehicles and their dismembered parts and broken glasses that fell from the windows of various buildings. There were also bloodstains all over the place.

In his reaction, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Bishop Ransome Bello, condemned the attack, describing it as extreme wickedness, barbaric and inhuman.

He said: “We are tired of these bomb blasts and acts of terrorism ravaging the land.”

He sympathised with the families of the victims and prayed God to grant eternal rest to those who died as well as grant succour to those who are in the hospitals.

Also, Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has commiserated with the victims, describing the act as criminal and unfortunate.

He stated that the bomb blast was executed by a group of persons who have formed the habit of destroying life and property. Kwankwaso, accompanied by all the security chiefs, arrived at the scene at 4.30 pm.

He noted that Sabon Gari area is critical, adding that whatever happens in the area affects the entire country, even as he stated that government will support the victims.

He urged the people to be more vigilant, asking them to report any suspicious character to the nearest police station.
