#CODED-ish News: Secondary School Male Teacher Beats Female Student to Coma in Lagos
Mr. Sebastine a Chemistry teacher at Iponri Estate Senior High School, Surulere in Lagos is reported to have beaten unconscious one of his female students last Tuesday.
Abigail Chidinma Enyenwa is alleged to have behaved rudely and rebelled against the Chemistry teacher’s instructions during his class session.
The teacher had apparently asked all students whose parents were absent during the school’s open day to rise on their feet. Abigail, an SS1 student whose parents were not present is said to have ignored the teacher’s instructions.
The teacher was exasperated. He called her out and caned her and in the process, the student passed out. The student regained consciousness minutes later after her colleagues and Mr. Sebastine poured some water on her.

#CODED-ish News: D’banj Pockets N250 Million in New Deal with Etisalat
D’banj continues to stamp his authority as the king of Nigeria’s new generation of musicians not just with the music he releases but also with the corporate deals he is pocketing.
The Kokomaster just got drenched in cash after striking another deal with Etisalat, a leading telecommunications company as a “super” brand ambassador.
The “Oliver Twist” hit maker is said to have been paid up to five times the average amount other Nigerian musicians get. He was allegedly issued a N250 million cheque by Etisalat.
The telecommunications firm is working to re-establish itself as a leader in the industry. This is after it lost its brand face, Saka to MTN under contentious state of affairs. D’banj has already shot some commercials for the firm which will soon be released.

Ex-WWE star Doink the Clown -- a hugely popular wrestler in the '90s -- was found dead today in Texas.
Doink, real name Matt Osborne, was known for pulling pranks on the other wrestlers ... all while decked out in full greasepaint and a green wig.
Details about Doink's death are unclear at this point -- but his girlfriend reportedly found him dead in her home ... where he'd been staying lately.
After leaving the WWE, he continued wrestling for ECW and independent leagues ... still sporting the clown costume. More recently, he's been attending wrestling conventions and doing autograph sessions with fans.
Doink was 55.

Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital is on the verge of becoming an oil-producing state after crude oil was discovered in commercial quantities in the coastal state.
Lekoil Limited and its partner Afren Plc announced the significant oil discovery Thursday. Afren expressed optimism that the discovery would be significantly higher than the 78 million barrels of oil they had previously anticipated.
The discovery now awaits authentication by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR). If certified, Lagos will join 10 other states that produce oil in Nigeria.

The Creative Arts students of the University of Lagos yesterday morning protested over alleged sexual harassment of female students in the department by their lecturers.
The students stormed the Arts block this morning with placards to register their grievance and later moved their protest to the Social Science department. Female students of the
department claim their lecturers are making life difficult for them by demanding sexual favours before they can pass their courses.
The students say they have had enough and after a meeting on Monday decided to protest against the sexual harassment that has become the order of the day. The school authority is yet to respond to these allegations. See more photos from the protest after the cut...

Oluwaseun Adaramoye, until her death was an undergraduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lautech. Seun left her hostel last week Sunday to visit her boyfriend and that was the last time she was seen alive. Ngozi her friend explains how Seun left them that evening to her boyfriend’s place while they were all chatting.
“Seun Adaramoye was an 100 level accounting student, she stayed in Stadium area around Lawyer Ahmed Junction, she’s a hostel mate and also my friend. On Sunday evening (16th of June), we were all gisting outside the hostel as we normally do and around 5pm, Seun just said she’s coming and left. She was on casual outfits like all of us, so we thought she had gone to the junction to buy stuffs but she went to her best friend’s place not far from the hostel.
“When Seun was leaving her best friend’s apartment, she told her that she wants to quickly get to her boyfriend’s place in Oke-Anu around 7pm on that same Sunday evening and that was the last time we both saw Seun.

#CODED-ish News:School principal dies watching Spain beat Nigeria

Disaster struck in Aghoro Community, Ekeromor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Sunday night following the death of the principal of the community’s Basic Junior Secondary School, Mr. Augustine Omokalemo, while watching Spain beat Nigeria 3-0 in the on-going FIFA Confederation Cup Competition in Brazil.
Daily Independent learnt at the General Hospital Bomadi, Delta State that the principal slumped when Spain and Chelsea forward, Fernando Torres headed in the second goal against the Super Eagles.
Sources disclosed that immediately after the second goal, Mr. Omokalemo slumped and started fuming on the floor. He died before he could get medical attention.
According to the source, before the match, Mr. Omokalemo boasted that Super Eagles would repeat its dominance over Spain like what it did in France 1998, when Super Eagles beat Spain 3-2.
While lamenting the vacuum the death of Omokalemo has caused the immediate family, the source added that he was a caring father and would be missed by his relatives, friends and students.
A senior medical personnel at the General Hospital morgue, who did not want his name on print said, the deceased died of cardiovascular accident.

A security man and employee of First Bank Nigeria Plc, Jibowu Branch, Seyi Jaiyeola, is standing trial at a magistrate's court in Ebute Meta for allegedly breaking the company's automated teller machine and stealing a sum of N12, 533,900.The bank's branch Service Manager, Mr. Kayode Aiyewunmi, who gave evidence in court, said Jaiyeola was on a N20, 000 monthly pay and was a member of the Odua People's Congress.
He said the company had observed that one of the bank's four ATMs was having a reconciliation problem and had employed the service of an expert to help unravel mysterious disappearances of money.
Aiyewunmi said, "We discovered that there was always a shortage of cash in the machine.
"Despite our reconciliation efforts, the ATM was still having problems and we engaged the service of an expert who submitted his report and said the machine did not have any reconciliation issue.
"He said somebody was breaking into the machine in the middle of the night to steal the cash.
"I reported the matter to my boss, who said I should conduct an investigation into the matter. "When the last breakage happened, we went to play back the branch's CCTV, and we now saw Jaiyeola in the middle of the night, opening the window at the back of my office. There's a control panel which controls the security door, which he touched. So, the CCTV stopped."

Ludacris straight jacked several lyrics for his hit song "Sex Room" -- so says a rapper from Chicago who claims he's the real author ... and now he's filed a lawsuit.
The rapper -- a guy named Marvo -- claims he concocted the original concept for "Sex Room" back in 2009 ... a year before Luda released it with Trey Songz.
Marvo claims he'd been working with a producer named Kajun -- but the dude sold the song to Ludacris behind his back.
Marvo says Ludacris changed parts of the song ... but released it with many of the original lyrics, including multiple lines written by Marvo -- such as, "Welcome to my sex room" and "It's a private party."
Marvo says he hasn't gotten a penny for his tune and is now suing Ludacris and Trey Songz for an unspecified amount of loot.
But we have to give credit where credit is due ... there are a bunch of genius lyrics on "Sex Room" that Ludacris came up with himself ... like, "Feelin' high but I'm hung real low / Looking' sorta like a tripod."
Calls to Ludacris' people were not returned.

A 17-year-old boy has been handed over to the Oyo State Police Command after he was caught by teachers at St. Luke Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan, while allegedly chanting incantations on a student at a nearby bush where the student had gone to ease himself.
The action, the teachers claimed, was to kidnap the victim
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, the suspect, Chukwu Chijoke, had claimed that the charm found on him was a gift from his grandfather, which has the powers to make him command anyone to do whatever he asked them to do.
But the suspect explained that the charm posed no evil on the student.
He said the name of the charm was “Ezebinafor” and that it was a gift from his grandfather for protection and to invoke command.

#CODED-ish News: Ajimobi Commissions New Flyover Bridge
OYO State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi yesterday, inaugurate a 640-metre flyover, situated at Mokola roundabout, Ibadan, the first to be constructed by any civilian administration in the state.
Also, the governor will inaugurate the ultra-modern motor park at Podo, Ibadan and the neighbourhood market at Scout Camp, Challenge area, Ibadan.
The commissioning programme, the Nigerian Tribune learnt, will commence by 10.00 a.m with the national chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Bisi Akande and a former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu, leading governors of ACN-controlled states to the three-phase inauguration ceremonies in Ibadan.
The foundation for the Mokola flyover was laid by Governor Ajimobi on December 22, 2011.
The newly constructed flyover with reinforced concrete drainage work on both and all the adjoining roads, beautification of the entire length, as well as landscaping, street-lighting and rehabilitation of all the adjoining roads, would be opened for motorists after the ceremony.
#CODED-ish News: Unilag Students Sack Leader of ‘Faculties Council’ due to Irregular Conduct
The Chairman of the Council of Faculty Presidents at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Seun Lari-Williams was stripped of the office by executives of the faculties' union earlier today due to his alleged irregular conduct during their recent protest against inflation on campus.He was immediately replaced with the President of the Faculty of Arts, Nelson Emmanuel Fisayo. In a statement, the Council of Faculty Presidents accused Mr. Larri-William of attending a meeting with the University Management alone without the consent of other Faculty Presidents, who were at the time either negotiating prices with retailers on campus or out protesting.
The clandestine meeting, which was held as betraying the students, was said to have lasted over four hours. The statement said nothing about the outcome of that particular meeting.
The council alleged that Larri-Williams also boasted about being single-handedly responsible for the protest, as well as peddling false information with intent to deceive the public.
The Council of Faculty Presidents is a union set up by the students following Unilag’s proscription of the Students Union Government.

#CODED-ish News: Police Corporal Escape Being Lynched by Angry University of Ibadan Students
A police corporal, Ajisafe Amos, escaped being lynched yesterday by angry students of the University of Ibadan when he gave a 400-level student of the institution, Adewale Adegboyega, a hot chase and allegedly shot his car at the main entrance of the university.
Adegboyega, who is a student in the Department of Guidance and Counselling of the institution said he ran into the campus because he was not sure of his safety in the hands of the policemen he encountered.
The police corporal reportedly shot twice with one bullet hitting the rear tyre of the student’s car. As the students heard the gunshots, they reportedly scampered for safety for fear of stray bullets.

Confusion enveloped Kuto area of Abeokuta, following the discovery of the lifeless body of a middle-aged man found dangling on a tree within the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta, yesterday.According to an eyewitness, the lifeless body of the man was found few minutes after he hanged himself on the tree. He said an attempt by policemen from Ibara Division to save his life was unsuccessful as he was confirmed dead at the state General Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta.
Contacted, the state Public Relations Officer of Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, stressing that nothing was found on the man to either unravel his identity or the rationale behind his action.
Ademuyiwa further explained that the Police were alerted by a man whose shop is close to the tree within the stadium on which the man hanged himself.
Adejobi however, declined to reveal the identity of the shop owner, stressing that investigations by the command was still on-going to identify the deceased as well as the rationale behind his action.
He stated that the corpse of the man has been deposited at the Ijaye General hospital for autopsy, saying that the press would be adequately briefed after the investigation must have been concluded.

The woman, 34, who resides at No. 47, Okesuna St., Lagos Island, is facing a charge of stealing. The prosecutor, Insp. Ignatius Okeke, told the court that the accused, a sales team leader with Etisalat, committed the offence sometime between April and May at the company’s office on Victoria Island.
``The dealers - Seaman Ventures, Telecomm Centre and Royal Serere - gave her N1.8 million for the products, but she failed to remit the money to the company.
``James claimed that she was `hypnotised’ by some unidentified men who took the money from her,” he said. Okeke noted that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. The section provides three years imprisonment for offenders.
The accused entered a not-guilty plea to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum. The Magistrate, Mrs Y. R. Pinheiro, adjourned the case to July 12 for mention.

#CODED-ish Video: Nigerian Students in Russia bags "Best Student of the Year" with a 5.0 CGPA
A Nigerian student Olalusi O. Victor led a team of other International students from Russia, Italy, Greece, Morocco and bagged the “Best Captain of the Year” award at the University’s annual Quiz competition. His team – International United – won Silver at the University’s annual Quiz competition.
Olalusi, who for the past three years has represented Nigeria in the University’s Hall of Fame, will deliver a valedictory speech on June 27th as the best graduating Student in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences with a grade point of 5.0. The year 2012 saw another Nigerian student, Ganiyu Sanusi bagging the “Best Student of the year” award at the University’s quiz competition. He graduated as the best student in the faculty with first-class honours and a CGPA of 5.0. Ganiyu Sanusi now works as an Intern in one of Nigeria’s teaching hospitals.
Nigeria-born Alonge Olanike Omotola, who in 2010 represented the country on the University’s Hall of Fame, bagged first-class honours degree in Medicine and Surgery and was the best Graduating student and valedictorian for that year. She proceeded for her Masters Degree at Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA.
Over the past five years, Nigerian students at the Russian National Research Medical University have consistently topped the graduation chat, bagging honours and contributing their wealth of knowledge to the University’s academic status.
