#CODED-ish News::Single fathers of Nigerian music

Single motherhood is common in the entertainment industry with so many actresses and female musicians having kids outside wedlock.

But just as there are single mothers, single fatherhood is gaining ground among the male entertainers these days.
Before now, most of them publicly denied having kids but turned around months or years later to again, publicly admit fathering the kids.

Saturday Beatslists some of the 'baby daddies' in the entertainment industry in Nigeria. Wizkid:The news that Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid, got a girl pregnant actually shocked most people, including his fans and even foes, the major reason being that Wizkid was more or less, a kid since he was still in his early 20s then. Apparently to save face, Wizzy (as he is also called) denied the story and even categorically told Saturday Punch that "even if I had a child, I don't think it is something I should be ashamed of.

Instead, I would come out plainly and declare that I am a father. Everybody makes mistakes. But it was just a false rumour. I don't have a child anywhere."
Apparently, Wizkid is now a man, he flaunts his kid, Boluwatife, on his Instagram and it is so evident the young artiste showers his little kid with so much love.

Wande Coal:It also came as a shock when just few weeks ago, Wande Coal openly declared, "I have a five-year-old son. The identity of the mother of his son is still unknown and the dark-skinned singer is not even ready to reveal her identity.

Timaya:The self-acclaimed Egberi Papa One of Bayelsa, Timaya, actually went to the rooftop and declared 'I am now a father.

' He certainly wasn't playing hide and seek. But almost two years down the line, Timaya is yet to make an honest woman of his 'Baby mama' by taking her to the altar.

Terry G:Gabriel Amanyi, better known as Terry G, couldn't hide his excitement when his girlfriend was delivered of a baby boy in the UK. Amanyi reportedly said he became a more responsible man since he became a father.

Almost a year and a half later, Terry G is yet to become more responsible by becoming a husband. Nevertheless, the singer loves his son to bits as he is seen taking him places.

Ice Prince:Panshack Zamani popularly known as Ice Prince fathered his first child when he was still in his 20s.

Those who know alleged Ice Prince wasn't so happy when his girlfriend, Bimbo, got pregnant for him.

But now, Ice Price is a proud father as he readily shows off pictures of his kid on the social media.

May D:Sure Boi singer, May D joined the celebrity single fathers when his on/off girlfriend Debola, gave birth to a boy last year.

He quickly went on twitter and shared the news with his friends and fans saying, "I just had a 'sure' boy.' Whether he would settle down with the mother of his child is still only known to May D.

9ice:Abolore '9ice' Akande's marriage to Toni Payne obviously could not be salvaged and as such, the talented singer got 'busy' which resulted to a set of twins. But 9ice didn't behave so nicely when he vehemently denied fathering any set of twins.

Nevertheless, the young man eventually admitted to Saturday Punch years after that he had kids and explained he had "reasons" for denying them initially.

It is still not known if 9ice would settle down with his 'baby mama' eventually.

Culled form punch newspaper.

#CODED-ish News::"It's An Insult For Me to Share An Award With Abacha" —Soyinka Blasts Jonathan

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Saturday said he rejected the centenary award to be conferred on him by the Federal Government because the late military dictator, General Sani Abacha, was included in the long list of awardees. In a statement entitled, 'The canonisation of terror,' Soyinka said it is an insult for him to be listed alongside the likes of Abacha for the award.

On why he can't share anything with the likes of Abacha, Prof Soyinka said:
"Under that ruler, torture and other forms of barbarism were enthroned as the norm of governance. Nine Nigerian citizens, including the writer and environmentalist, Ken Saro-wiwa, were hanged after a trial that was stomach-churning even by the most primitive standards of judicial trial, and in defiance of the intervention of world leadership.
"We are speaking of a man who placed this nation under siege during an unrelenting reign of terror that is barely different from the current rampage of Boko Haram. It is this very psychopath that was recently canonised by the government of Goodluck Jonathan in commemoration of one hundred years of Nigerian trauma."
Soyinka wondered why the Federal Government had not changed the names of roads, hospitals and any other public facility that were named after Abacha. He added that by honouring Abacha, President Goodluck Jonathan's administration had ridiculed Nigeria in the presence of world leaders by glorifying "murderers and thieves."

"What the government of Goodluck Jonathan has done is to scoop up a century's accumulated degeneracy in one preeminent symbol, then place it on a podium for the nation to admire, emulate and even – worship."

"...I reject my share of this national insult," the respected literary giant concluded.

#CODED-ish News::ENDTIMES: Church Uses Rihanna/Robin Thicke’s Pics And songs For Advertisement [PHOTO]

A church in Kenya has come under criticism for using pop stars  Robin Thicke and Rihanna lyrics to promote there series of sermons to be held during services for the month of March.

The posters shows a picture of a young cuople with lyrics and tittles of secular songs even including the controversial sexual book 50 shades of Grey.

Immediatelly the poster went viral, social media users and critics alike began questioning the church's motive, They felt the church is using this to attract members instead of focusing on winning souls .

The church's leader Pastor D. Kuria defended this saying " If people's reception to anything is what determines how you're going to respond then you won't go very far. I feel as I look at society, anyone who achieves great things often times goes against the grain of society. Would I tone it down? I don't know. But what I do know is that we need to be bold,"

#CODED-ish News::S*x, S*x Everywhere You Go [A MUST READ]

This is the era of séx marketing. If you turn right, séx leaps into your face; if you turn left, séx jumps at you. In the street, in the shopping mall, in the church, in the office, on your computer and phone, and even in your living room, séx chases you around.

Séx – subtle or barefaced – has become all-pervasive in our society. Our society has become so séx-charged that the safety of our children is no longer guaranteed. Before, the rule was that during the children's belt on TV, materials with adult content were not shown.

Then there are the so-called Nigerian and Ghanaian home videos that are anything but homely. Even though many of these films are rated 16 or 18, they are shown on regular TV stations during the day when children are home watching TV. Even within early news bulletins when families are expected to be watching TV, film trailers with smooching scenes are advertised. What do you do?
These days, the only things that are not shown on our TV from morning to about 10 pm are commercials of alcoholic beverages. Any other thing goes. At such periods, TV stations are competing on which will show more Mexican soaps featuring deep kissing and erotic scenes every five minutes. Almost all the stations dedicate about two hours per day to music videos with bikini-clad girls dancing with men with lewd abandon.
Ban your children from watching TV? That is not an option for me. The only thing within my power is that I have ensured that they do not watch any TV/video material that is rated over 13. But what do I do when these adult materials are slotted into family belts?

If I drive to the news vendor with my children in the car, there are pornography magazines littering the table that it becomes a crime taking children to such a place.

If I drive into a filling station or drop by the post office to check mails, I am confronted by some men selling the local Viagra. The horrible thing about these men is that they flash their products with obscene pictures as you are parking. On one occasion at the car park at Ikeja General Post Office, Lagos, my children were in the car when one of these unscrupulous men flashed their séx-dripping packs at the car window, saying: "Oga, man power!" I was so angry I felt like slapping him.

What one sees at social events is another story altogether because of the if-you've-got-it-flaunt-it policy that is in vogue. One does not complain because it is a free world. But the one that surprises one as inexplicable is seeing grandmothers in some churches trying to outdo teenage girls on who would flaunt a deeper cleavage.

Even the social networks are constantly attacked by séx hackers. A couple of times, Facebook was attacked with pornographic pictures littering everywhere. The network always reacted as fast as it can to cleanse its channel. But with such fears and also the possibility of some mindless people posting nude or semi-nude pictures, one has to be careful not to leave one's laptop facing the children anytime one is on the social network.

Yahoo is not left out of the séx bait. In recent times, Yahoo has been showing adverts of girls with plunging neckline asking you to chat with them. Sometimes the picture of a girl pops up by your Yahoo home page asking to click on her and undress her. Such adverts confirmed to me that Facebook had eaten so deep into Yahoo's business that Yahoo does not have any scruples about collecting all kinds of adverts. To check my emails on Yahoo, I have to turn my screen away from my children to avoid such pictures flashing in their face.

Then there are the hordes of bloggers who want to draw traffic to their sites so as to start making money from advertising. One common way they use for this is to post sensual adverts on the internet urging you to click and see what one celebrity did with another celebrity. Knowing the power of séx, they believe that with such a bait, people would click and be taken to their blogs, which have counters that record the number of visitors.

Also, any time I attend a party like a birthday and children are told to dance, I always feel embarrassed at the type of érotic moves made by girls who are less than 10 years old. At one of such parties, a friend whose eight-year-old girl came first in the dancing competition was so shocked at the way her daughter wriggled her waist and backside that she vowed that she would not allow her watch music videos on TV anymore. The dancing of the little girl looked more like what a professional strip tease woman would do rather than what a girl of eight would do. The mother confessed that she had seen her daughter dance with her siblings and friends now and then but had never seen her dance in such an obscene way.

Furthermore, a contemporary novel that is not dripping with séx is "archaic." I remember reading Half of a Yellow Sun of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie some years ago, and when my niece in secondary school saw me with it and asked me to give it to her after reading it, I told her stories for weeks, all in a bid not to let her have the book. I told myself that I would not be the one to give her a novel with so many love-making scenes. If she had to get such a book, let her get it herself, not through me.

In the same vein, I heard of one of the rave-making novels of the world in recent years, which was described as a success story in self-publishing, and decided to read it: 50 Shades of Grey by E. L. James. I only read a few pages and stopped. Almost every other page featured raw séx, violent séx, animalistic séx. The "novel" is just an out-and-out porno book: the only thing missing in it are pictures! Sir Salman Rushdie said about the book: "I've never read anything so badly written that got published." Many authorities have described its prose as low, yet the book has sold 90 million copies since 2011!
It is obvious that most people have realised that nothing sells like séx. So, they therefore exploit séx as sale bait: whatever negative consequence on society is not their business.

Nobody knows if the recent high rate of rapé in our society has any connection with all these factors that have made our society séxually charged. Because we live in a free society, the dress code of people may not be determined by law, but the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission has the power to regulate what should be shown on TV when our children are awake and watching TV. Those who sell the local Viagra in packs decorated with glossy obscene pictures need to be arrested or chased out of public places.

Interestingly, any time one complains about the all-pervasive séx in our society, one is either told to close one's eyes, or to stop being a hypocrite. But surprisingly, I have never seen any of these so-called non-hypocrites have séx in broad daylight by the roadside or in the market. Among human beings, sex is a private thing, done behind closed doors. Only animals have séx in the public.

An adult mind may not be adversely affected by séxually explicit materials, but exposing our children to such materials has a very negative impact on them. We must not fold our arms and wave it off as modernity.

#CODED-ish New::Mercy Johnson Nollywood Ban: Marketers Say They Will Not Lift Ban Until She Apologizes!

November 2013 it was revealed that actress Mercy Johnson had been banned by The Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (FVPMAN) for "unbecoming attitude of the actress as it affects  her work."

That was the official reason, the real reason had to do with her fees…Mercy Johnson who is currently teh highest paid actress in Nollywood charges between N1.8 Million & N2 Million per movie

In the latest development concerning Mercy Johnson's ban it has been gathered that the marketers have vowed not to lift the ban until the actress tenders a letter of apology to them through their  umbrella body, Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, FVPMAN.

But according to Vanguard, all is not well with the rank and file in the marketers' body since they slammed the ban on the actress.

According to a reliable source, while the chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the association, Mr Nobert Ajaegbu granted an interview last year, disowning  the proposed ban of the actress, his aggrieved members who were dissatisfied with his action have refused to pay their dues to the association.
Following this development, Mr. Ajaegbu is said to have changed his position in order to give  peace a chance. He told HVP that he decided to retrace his steps after he found out that  Mercy Johnson actually committed all the things she was accused of. He said, "It was a case of established indiscipline on the part of Mercy Johnson,"

In a statement made available to HVP, Ajaegbu  who doubles as FVPMAN spokesman, addressed  some of the salient issues surrounding Mercy's  alleged ban.
According to him, "We did not ban Mercy because; we have resolved never to play ourselves god in any one's life.
We only resolved to severe our business relationship with her because she have shown strong disregard to the rules of professional conduct and abuse on the terms of  production contracts."
Ajaegbu said, the ban was a "factor of mixed truth and falsehood. The issue in question has no bearing on her fee or charges as widely speculated. It is a function of misconduct, unjust and unfair treatment of film producers.  We are obviously not agitated over what Mercy is being paid because, we pay the bills. We are strongly agitated because we anticipate that professional justification ought to have been given to the contract to act or perform. We believe that the sanctity of contract ought to have been respected."

He went on to say, "The facts as we know before are that some of our members contracted Mercy at a particular scale of charge, when she collected money from higher bidders, she disregarded the contracts at lesser price and to some, she gave stringent and unprofessional conditions. We had written a letter to her in this regard about a year ago. The letter was a private advice from our union as well as a caution. We thought it wise to first caution her in case it was an unconscious attitude. Her inconsiderate attitude of disregarding this untold hardship on producers leaves us with no option, than to severe this uncommon relationship. It is not a ban, but simply a survival strategy. We took our time to investigate these allegations and came to the conclusion that they are not spurious. We did strong internal engagements, disagreements before arriving at the actual prove of facts relating to this issue.
Since the speculation in late October, last year, we had anticipated her to demonstrate some sort of remorse.
What we see is more of blackmail and ridicule. What is said to the world by her publicist was the tale of how we are unable to afford her charges or  portray  our people as envious of what she is being paid.

#CODED-ish News::Security Is Tight at LASU, as Final Year Students Resume

Final year students of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, resumed on February 24, 2014, Monday, amid tight security.

The students were spotted discussing the issues in groups on the campus. The resumption was in compliance with the decision by the management of the Institution, and the Lagos State Government.

Prof. Kabir Akinyemi, the Dean of Students Affairs, confirmed that the university's portal had been reopened for the final year students alone.

He said the reopening of the portal would enable them to register online ahead of their rain semester examinations.

The don said writing the examinations would also enable the final year students to participate in the June batch of National Youth Service Corps programme.

"We had to consider the final year students because they have overstayed in the school since the ASUU strike had earlier affected them.

"We do not want to prolong their graduation," Prof. Kabir Akinyemi said.

Prof. Akinyemi further explained that security had been beefed up in the campus to prevent any possible protest.

"We do not want anybody to disrupt the resumption of the final year students as some group had threatened to do so.

"If any group wants to protest they should go to the appropriate authorities and do so, but not by disrupting academic activities in the campus," he said.

Prof. Akinyemi urged other students to be patient and wait for their dates of resumption.

It would be noted that the newly-admitted students for the 2013/2014 session are to resume on March 10, 2014, while other categories of students are to report on April 1, 2014.
