However, in terms of raw materials, a gold medal weighs 400g total, of which 394g is sterling silver, and layered on top with 6 grams of 24 karat gold plating. They have not handed out solid gold medals since 1912.
Though the raw materials fluctuate from day to day, this makes a gold medal worth roughly about $624 in terms of materials. A silver medal is made of 93% silver and 7% copper. It's worth about $330. Bronze medals are worth the least in terms of materials, being made of mostly copper, with small amounts of zinc and tin.

I want American Idol judge role- Snoop Lion
Snoop said in an interview this week: "I'll do American Idol."
Mariah Carey has already been announced as one of the new judges when the new series of the show begins in January. When told that Mariah is earning about 18 million dollars a year for a one-year contract with a renewal option, Snoop looked to his manager and jokingly yelled: "Get on it!"
Neil Schubert, spokesman for American Idol producer FremantleMedia North America, declined to comment on any speculation about potential new judges.
Taping on episodes that include the judges doesn't start until the autumn, so the show has time to continue its search.
Snoop, 40, announced earlier this week that he's using the name Snoop Lion for an upcoming reggae album. He now considers himself a Rastafarian after what he calls a life-changing trip to Jamaica, and he is releasing a documentary about his rebirth. Both the album and film are called Reincarnated.
Given American Idol's family-friendly focus, Snoop - known for his colourful language and gangsta raps - said he would be mindful of his tone. But the ardent marijuana supporter seemed to have a limit regarding his beloved (and illegal) herb. "I'll clean my act up, but I'm still Rastafari", he said.
Nick Jonas and Pharrel Williams are rumoured to be in talks to join the panel.

Facebook’s Top Talent Departures Continue
Apparently, not that long. Ethan Beard, director of platform partnerships at Facebook, announced on Wednesday via Facebook that he will soon leave the company. Shortly thereafter, platform marketing director Katie Mitic also announced her departure from the company.
If that wasn't enough, a third announcement came on Wednesday, as mobile platform marketing manager Jonathan Matus also announced his impending departure from the social networking giant.
Beard has been at Facebook for more than four years, and has been in charge of developing relationships with some of the top app makers that work with the company. Similarly, Mitic and Matus worked on the marketing side of platform, with Matus' emphasis on mobile.
"I've had the pleasure of helping build an ecosystem of incredible developers from innovative startups and established companies," Beard wrote on his Timeline. He names no specific successor to his role, but rattles off a list of other Facebook execs who will handle platform in the future, including Dan Rose, Justin Osofsky, Sean Ryan, Douglas Purdy, David Fisch and Chris Daniels.
Beard has announced no specific plans, outside of eventually starting a "new venture" of his own in the future. Matus and Mitic are similarly vague, although Mitic announced plans to work on her own mobile startup.
It's worrisome for outsiders — particularly investors — who fear the loss of top Facebook talent after the company went public. If Facebook loses too many good minds to other, smaller companies, it could face what all growing companies dread — a stall in company innovation and proper leadership.
CODED-ish TECHNOLOGY: Google Wallet now accepts multiple cards
The latest update also provides a cloud-based version of the app -- a move Google (GOOG, Fortune 500) hopes will provide more security for users. The feature allows users to remotely disable Google Wallet if a phone is lost or stolen.
Google Wallet only works on near-field communication (NFC) -enabled devices, and is limited to Sprint (S, Fortune 500), Virgin Mobile devices and the Nexus 7 tablet.
There are now twenty-five national retailers -- from Macy's (M, Fortune 500) to Duane Reade -- accepting Google's mobile payment app and according to Google's post about the update, 200,000 locations where people can use Google Wallet.
While it's a step forward, Google admits it still has a long way to go. Most people haven't ditched their wallets for smartphones and several phones on the market don't have NFC capability, which is integral for Google Wallet.

Scamming Tins: 22 year Old Boy Jailed Over $53,500 Internet Scam
Justice A. Akinlade slammed the prison term on Niye having found him guilty of the four count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and attempt to obtain money by false pretence, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Reports showed that Niye presented himself to Wallmam as businessman who operates a 'moving' company and needed money to get some of his goods out of storage.
He met Wallmam in a dating site and has been in a relationship with her using a fictitious name, Toby Encore.
His journey to prison began on May 27th, 2010 when officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and DHL Courier Services intercepted a suspicious parcel containing a Teddy Bear and a Blackberry handset sent from the USA to the convict by Wallmam.
The parcel was examined and it was discovered that it contained the sum of $40,000, a Blackberry handset, and a white lady's photograph concealed in the Teddy Bear.
The parcel was to be delivered to an address in Alapere, a suburb of Lagos with the name Tobi Encore and a Nigerian phone number also belonging to the same recipient.
With the phone number, the convicted fraudster was traced and upon finding him, he was handed over to the EFCC for investigation.
Upon investigation, Operatives of the Commission discovered that the name Tony Encore was used by the fraudster to deceive the American in order to defraud her. It was found out that his real name is Bike John Niye.
The operatives also discovered that it was Niye who instructed the victim to conceal all the items in a Teddy Bear.
Investigations also revealed that Niye has been receiving various sums of money from the victim via Western Union totalling about US$25,000 before the parcel which finally landed him in jail.
To enable him collect the sent funds via Western Union , findings revealed that Niye obtained a Driver's license with a forged identity bearing the name Nathan Omarkeh.
He usually destroys the identity card after collecting money sent to him.
In addition to the one and half year jail term, Niye is to refund the sum of $48,500 as restitution to the victim.

A source, who preferred anonymity, said immediately the purported bomb was uncovered at the campus, there was pandemonium in the institution, as students scampered for safety.

Policeman Goes Berserk; Shot Dead After Killing Inspector, Injuring 2 Constables
It was gathered that the police constable signed for a gun as normally required of them and shot the late inspector and the two constables.
"The police who were on joint patrol tried to arrest him to prevent him from killing innocent civilians. But when they could not arrest him, he was gunned down," Inspector Ibrahim Mohammed said. He also disclosed that a group was reported to have planted some explosives around the police station in Mubi and in the course of exchange of fire, one of the gunmen was killed but refuted the reports that eight persons were killed in the two incidents.
The constable in Michika lawfully signed to go for duty but decided to open fire on his colleagues, including an inspector of Police and two constables.
He said it was confirmed that it had been the behavioral pattern of the late corporal who several times mockingly would target his superior but unfortunately carried out his action by killing the inspector. Meanwhile, the commercial nerve centre of Adamawa State, Mubi was said to have suffered another attack by unknown gunmen with two police officer killed and six civilians, resident around Ribawa Police Station were gunned down with many causalities hospitalized at Mubi General Hospital. However, unconfirmed source said eight people died as a result of bomb blast at Ribawa Police Station at the outskirts of Mubi.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ibrahim Mohammed, confirmed to Daily Sun that the attackers were gunmen and not suicide bombers. The situation had apparently further paralyzed the commercial nerve centre of the state, which for almost a year ago had suffered economic setback following the killing of 12 people in the metropolis.
Mohammed said two incidents occurred in the Mubi Area Police command comprising the five local government areas of the state, one at Mubi metropolis and the other one at Michika town within the week.
The police imagemaker also said the command was still investigating the two incidents while the situation in the two towns were being brought under control.

Murdock was found in his car in front of Middleton High School, his alma mater, at 8:30 a.m., police said. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead at 10:43 a.m. Eastern time. "He was by himself," Tampa police spokesman Andrea Davis said. "… He was alive when fire rescue transported him."
Murdock did not report to training camp last Friday with the rest of the team, and the Titans placed him on their "did not report" list over the weekend. When asked about Murdock's absence, coach Mike Munchak said it was for personal reasons.
"He had some personal things come up," Munchak said on Saturday. "He called us, and we're hoping to see him tonight."
The Titans signed Murdock as an undrafted free agent on July 28, 2011. He spent the entire 2011 season on injured reserve after suffering a right Achilles injury early in his rookie training camp.
Scandal Trails Naeto C's Wedding Car Gift Seller
According to what we gathered, Larry allegedly sold a 2009 model of the SUV to Naeto C's former brother-in-law, Dumebi Kachikwu as 2012 model.
This shady deal was exposed, as we learnt, when the 'new' toy was taken to a Porsche mart in Lagos after a suspicion that all was not well with the controversial car gift. At the mart, it was discovered that the Porsche Cayenne SUV believed to be a 2012 model was actually a 2009 model. This is against what Larry claimed the posh car is.
Interestingly, sources are claiming that Larry is not new in this kind of shady deals. He was alleged to be in the act of defrauding innocent and unsuspecting customers by selling his stock-in-trade and outdated cars to them as in vogue cars.
You will recall that D'Banj was first reported to have presented the wonder-on-wheel to Naeto C. Thereafter, Larry Onuegbu was reported to have bought the expensive car, but asked D'Banj to present it to the couple for him.
However, later reports confirmed that the car gift was actually from Naeto C's former in-law, Dumebi. The car gift is almost the most controversial wedding gifts presented at a celebrity's wedding. It has also gotten much media attention than expected.
On July 21, Naeto C was married to his wife, Nicole in Lagos where the controversial gift was presented.

Al Mustapha Prison Notes Uncovered
"Contrary to insinuations, speculations and sad rumours initiated by some sections of the society, I maintain that the sudden collapse of the health system of the late Head of State started previous day (Sunday, 7th June, 1998) right from the Abuja International Airport immediately after one of the white security operatives or personnel who accompanied President Yasser Arafat of Palestine shook hands with him (General Abacha) I had noticed the change in the countenance of the late Commander-in-Chief and informed the Aide-de-Camp, Lt. Col. Abdallah, accordingly. He, however, advised that we keep a close watch on the Head of State. Later in the evening of 8th June, 1998, around 6p.m; his doctor came around, administered an injection to stabilize him. He was advised to have a short rest. Happily, enough, by 9p.m; the Head of State was bouncing and receiving visitors until much later when General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, the then Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, came calling. He was fond of the Head of State. They were very good friends. They stayed and chatted together till about 3.35a.m. A friend of the house was with me in my office and as he was bidding me farewell, he came back to inform me that the FCT Minister, General Useni was out of the Head of State's Guest House within the Villa."
"I then decided to inform the ADC and other security boys that I would be on my way home to prepare for the early morning event at the International Conference Centre. At about 5a.m; the security guards ran to my quarters to inform me that the Head of State was very unstable. At first, I thought it was a coup attempt. Immediately, I prepared myself fully for any eventuality. As an intelligence officer and the Chief Security Officer to the Head of State for that matter, I devised a means of diverting the attention of the security boys from my escape route by asking my wife to continue chatting with them at the door – she was in the house while the boys were outside. From there, I got to the Guest House of the Head of State before them. When I got to the bedside of the Head of State, he was already gasping. Ordinarily, I could not just touch him. It was not allowed in our job. But under the situation on ground, I knelt close to him and shouted, "General Sani Abacha, Sir, please grant me permission to touch and carry you." I again knocked at the stool beside the bed and shouted in the same manner, yet he did not respond. I then realized there was a serious danger. I immediately called the Head of State's personal physician, Dr. Wali, who arrived the place under eight minutes from his house. He immediately gave Oga – General Abacha – two doses of injection, one at the heart and another close to his neck."
"This did not work apparently as the Head of State had turned very cold. He then told me that the Head of State was dead and nothing could be done after all. I there and then asked the personal physician to remain with the dead body while I dashed home to be fully prepared for the problems that might arise from the incident. As soon as I informed my wife, she collapsed and burst into tears. I secured my house and then ran back. At that point, the Aide-de-Camp had been contacted by me and we decided that great caution must be taken in handling the grave situation. Again, I must reiterate that the issue of my Boss dying on top of women was a great lie just as the insinuation that General Sani Abacha ate and died of poisoned apples was equally a wicked lie. My question is: did Chief M.K.O Abiola die of poisoned apples or did he die on top of women? As I had stated at the Oputa Panel, their deaths were organized. Pure and simple! It was at this point that I used our special communication gadgets to diplomatically invite the Service Chiefs, Military Governors and some few elements purportedly to a meeting with the Head of State by 9a.m. at the Council Chamber. That completed, I also decided to talk to some former leaders of the nation to inform them that General Sani Abacha would like to meet them by 9a.m. Situation became charged however, when one of the Service Chiefs, Lieutenant General Ishaya Rizi Bamaiyi, who pretended to be with us, suggested he be made the new Head of State after we had quietly informed him of the death of General Sani Abacha. He even suggested we should allow him access to Chief Abiola. We smelt a rat and other heads of security agencies, on hearing this, advised I move Chief Abiola to a safer destination."
"I managed to do this in spite of the fact that I had been terribly overwhelmed with the crisis at hand. But then, when some junior officers over-heard the suggestion of one of the Service Chiefs earlier mentioned, it was suggested to me that we should finish all the members of the Provisional Ruling Council and give the general public an excuse that there was a meeting of the PRC during which a shoot-out occurred between some members of the Provisional Ruling Council and the Body Guards to the Head of State When I sensed that we would be contending with far more delicate issues than the one on ground, I talked to Generals Buba Marwa and Ibrahim Sabo who both promptly advised us – the junior officers – against any bloodshed. They advised we contact General Ibrahim Babangida (former Military President) who equally advised against any bloodshed but that we should support the most senior officer in the Provisional Ruling Council (PRC) to be the new Head of State. Since the words of our elders are words of wisdom, we agreed to support General Jeremiah Useni. Along the line, General Bamaiyi lampooned me saying, "Can't you put two and two together to be four? Has it not occurred to you that General Useni who was the last man with the Head of State might have poisoned him, knowing full well that he was the most senior officer in the PRC?"
"Naturally, I became furious with General Useni since General Abacha's family had earlier on complained severally about the closeness of the two Generals; at that, a decision was taken to storm General Useni's house with almost a battalion of soldiers to effect his arrest. Again, some heads of security units and agencies, including my wife, advised against the move. The next most senior person and officer in government was General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who was then the Chief of Defence Staff. We rejected the other Service Chief, who, we believed, was too ambitious and destructive. We settled for General Abubakar and about six of us called him inside a room in the Head of State's residence to break the news of the death of General Abacha to him. As a General with vast experience, Abdulsalami Abubakar, humbly requested to see and pray for the soul of General Abacha which we allowed. Do we consider this a mistake? Because right there, he – Abubakar – went and sat on the seat of the late Head of State. Again, I was very furious. Like I said at the Oputa Panel, if caution was not applied, I would have gunned him down. The revolution the boys were yearning for would have started right there. The assumption that we could not have succeeded in the revolution was a blatant lie. We were in full control of the State House and the Brigade of Guards. We had loyal troops in Keffi and in some other areas surrounding the seat of government – Abuja. But I allowed peace to reign because we believed it would create further crises in the country."
"We followed the advice of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and the wise counsel of some loyal senior officers and jointly agreed that General Abdulsalami Abubakar be installed Head of State, Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces immediately after the burial of General Sani Abacha in Kano. It is an irony of history that the same Service Chief who wanted to be Head of State through bloodshed, later instigated the new members of the Provisional Ruling Council against us and branded us killers, termites and all sorts of hopeless names. They planned, arranged our arrest, intimidation and subsequent jungle trial in 1998 and 1999. These, of course, led to our terrible condition in several prisons and places of confinement."
