RECENTLY, the Dangote Group was looking for 100 trailer drivers but, unexpectedly, the company received applications from 8,460 B.Sc. holders, 704 masters degree holders and six PhDs. As usual, this incident received varied reactions, mostly from the court of public opinion. A majority was critical of Nigerian political leaders and the current state of the nation’s educational system, some simply cursed the country out, while the rest displayed their displeasure at the man who made a simple offer.

Worshippers give Bishop Oyedepo 700 cars as offering
This actually happened a few weeks back but I'm only just hearing about it. According to sources in the know, during Winners Chapel Cross Over service on Tuesday January 1st in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun state, worshipers of the church made donations of over 700 exotic cars to the church.
People who felt they had been richly blessed in 2012 came to the cross over service with different donations, most significant was the number of exotic brand new cars and SUVs that flooded Canaanland.
The people who donated them dropped the keys and documents of the cars during offering. The church auctioned the cars at very cheap prizes to its members. Some cars were sold for as low as N300k.

A series of pencil drawings by a north London artist has been amazing art critics.
Kelvin Okafor, from Tottenham, has scooped a number of national awards and exhibited art galleries across the country.
The 27-year-old Middlesex University Fine Art graduate's drawings are often mistaken for photographs.
He is from Nigeria but stays in Tottenham. His art works are usually mistaken for photos. Fantastic art works. One of his art work or any is sold for £10,000 which is approximately #265,000 in Nigerian currency.
That is the minimum amount especially depending on who or what he is painting. If he is to paint the queen of England it should be a higher amount. And to the surprise of people, his work sells quickly and to a lot of people. Very profitable I must say.

Kano State to close 2,000 illegal private schools
Chairman of the Task Force, Alhaji Baba Umar, told reporters that the step became imperative following the failure of proprietors of such schools to conform with laid down rules and regulations in the state.
Umar said: “Majority of the 3,500 private schools and colleges operating across the state are illegal; no formal registration with government and over 2,000 of the affected schools operate below the benchmark set by government.”
He further noted that this was happening in spite of substantial investments by Governor Musa Kwankwaso’s administration in the education sector, describing the situation as unacceptable.

World’s Largest Cigar Sells For N29m
Panesso placed his bid on the mighty beast for a private collector in a special cigar auction.
“A guy called and he needed to locate a few high-end cigars,” Panesso said. “We pride ourselves on finding the hard-to-find cigars,” he said. “This shows we are able to fill all our orders.”
The cigar, nearly 19 feet long and more than 3 feet wide, came in its own carrying case, a 900 pound round wooden crate that looks like an old steam locomotive. It sat inside a Clearwater warehouse Sunday awaiting the gentle hands of workers to crate it up and ship it out on Tuesday, TBO reports.
The cigar came from a collector in Miami, he said, and it has been in the public before, on display at cigar shows and events. It took 16,000 wrapper leaves to sheath the tobacco, which is enough to make 25,000 regular size cigars. The beast weighs 1,600 pounds, paper ring included.

Pendleton was hanging out with a group of her teenage friends under a canopy in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park on Tuesday when a gunman ran down an alley, opened fire at the group and fled in a white car, police said.
Pendleton was shot in the back but managed to run about a block before she collapsed, officer Laura Kubiak said. She died at the hospital.

Chris Brown, Frank Ocean fight at recording studio in LA
Openly gay R&B singer/songwriter Frank Ocean claimed on Twitter that he was attacked by Chris Brown and a 'couple of guys' at a recording studio in LA.
Sources close to Chris told reporters that Frank Ocean started it by blocking Chris and his crew as they made to leave the studio. Another report claims they fought over parking space, while another claimed Ocean called Rihanna a 'Hoe' and that enraged Chris who attacked Ocean. Police was called to the scene of the fight but Chris and his crew had left before they arrived. Frank Ocean was questioned but no arrest was made and no one is pressing charges...

American rapper Rick Ross smashed his Rolls-Royce into an apartment building in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida early this morning while attempting to flee from a drive-by shooting. TMZ is reporting he was the intended target.
According to reports, around 5am Rick Ross and a female companion were leaving a party on Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale when a car pulled up along side Rick's dark colored Rolls and opened fire.
Rick swerved to avoid being hit and crashed into an apartment building at SE 15 Avenue.
Neither Rick nor his passenger were hit. Security cameras at a building across the street from the crash were rolling during the incident and cops are hoping the footage will either reveal the identity of the shooter or at least show the vehicle.

CAF dismisses Egyptian Referee who officiated Nigeria vs Zambia match
Ghead Grisha awarded a controversial penalty to Zambia in the 85th minute which enabled them draw level in the group C match.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF immediately sent a protest letter to the Confederation of African Football, CAF, asking the football governing body to look into the questionable call by Grisha.
A top official of CAF said today that Grisha 'has been sent home. He will have no further action at this Cup of Nations. His decisions did not tally with best practices of the refereeing profession and we would not allow anyone to start re-writing the rules of the game here'

One arm of P-Square, Peter, is on a buying spree again. Only last year, the duo acquired a private jet that cost millions of naira. Now sources say Peter has splurged a whopping N450 million to acquire a home in the United States.

Drug dealing Catholic Priest arrested by FBI
A suspended Roman Catholic priest was arrested on federal drug charges this month for allegedly having methamphetamine mailed to him from co-conspirators in California and making more than $300,000 in drugs sales out of his apartment in Waterbury in the second half of last year.Along the way, authorities said, he bought a small adult video and sex toy shop in the nearby town of North Haven named ‘Land of Oz & Dorothy’s Place,’ apparently to launder all the money he was making.
He has pleaded not guilty, and jury selection in his trial is scheduled to begin March 21.
Wallin, 61, was the pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Bridgeport for nine years until he resigned in June 2011, citing health and personal problems. He previously served six years as pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Danbury until 2002.

Final year Igbinedion Student, Bolaji James Odubayo Missing
Bolaji James Odubayo, a 20 year old final year student of Igbinedion University, Okada is nowhere to be found.After bidding his family good bye on January 14th, he departed their Aguda, Surulere residence, and set off for a bus to take him to school.
According to his mother, “he left with a travelling bag and a shuttle bag wearing a white and green shirt atop a violet pair of trousers bidding farewell to his younger sister who was at home at the time he left.
“He told me before I left home earlier that he was going to board a bus at Edegbe Line for Benin and I told him to call me immediately he gets to campus but he never did. Although he was not having a cell phone with him, he had lost his phone before he arrived from school late in December for holidays. We never talked about a new phone before he left,” she stated.
The worried sick widow and mother of four says she has been to everywhere possible to inquire into the whereabouts of her son.
She says, “I have gone everywhere I know and contacted those of his friends I know. I have gone to Edegbe Line to ask whether he boarded any of their buses to Benin but they said no.
“I requested for their manifest for that day which they provided the following day but with no trace of his name on it. I have also reported at Sholoki, Aguda Police station near our house. He was supposed to be writing his final exams now and all his friends at school also said they have not seen him. I also called one of his lecturers who also said the same thing. After making an entry of the case, the police only told me to go and pray over it.”
